Big thank to @beerloserLI!! Luckily messaged me yesterday about the box he sent and I found out it was in the leasing office for a week. The delay and “lateness” off the box was on my end and I’m very happy to now h have this nice box of Sand City beers. So far I have not had anything from Sand City so I’m extremely excited to finally tick a few from them!!

Again big thank you to @beerloserLI, excited for the other box you said is coming!

Hope you enjoy, and keep in mind I still owe you food and swag, and if I'm sending a box I might as well throw some beers in there...

Holy shit, party foul! I just picked up that pack of Bloom last week and somehow failed to check the dates. I apologize, I'd never knowingly send an IPA that old! Glad you enjoyed it though.

D'oh! I can still send you some Texas beer even if I'm not your sender!

The Bloom was amazing. Some beers just hold up like that. Glad you sent it. Looking forward to quitting time tonight to try the next one.

Didn't drink yesterday, for some random reason, and was waffling whether to knock some back tonight. Then I thought to myself, "self, those beers @Roguer sent you are not going to drink themselves".

So, here we are, just me and a bottle of Aardwolf Three of Swords; an Imperial Stout, aged in both Rye and Bourbon barrels, with Blueberry, Cinnamon, and Vanilla. Whew! That's a lot going on in one beer!

I liked the berry aspect, didn't get much vanilla from it, just the right amount of cinnamon, and thought that the barrels didn't really contribute much, but were there. Very nice brew.

I liked the review; we got quite the same impression. I thought for all four of those anniversary brews the barrels were fairly restrained, but very well integrated. In general, if you're going to barrel age a brew, I prefer it to be a bit more assertive (and Aardwolf definitely has beers that fit into that category), but I enjoyed the restraint in this case.

One of the "problems" I have with the tremendous beers I receive from generous BAs is that I live alone, in a beer wasteland, and I don't have a core group of beer nerd friends. I love taking down bombers and 750s on my own, but not when they're rare and special. I want to share that love.

I've got a "local" shop down in Jax where I share most of these, but on a given night - even our dedicated beer share night, on the rare occasions where I can make it down - most of the patrons are strangers. Still worthy of a share, but not as nice as sharing with friends.

My gf likes good beer (except IPAs), but she's far from a beer nerd. Still, last night she cooked dinner (I normally do the cooking on evenings we have together), and so I figured it would be appropriate, if I were to crack one of the amazing brews @SammyJaxxxx sent my way, to share it then.

Marshal Zhukov's Imperial Stout is one of my favorite stouts. Considering how much hype Huna gets, I was absolutely blown away the first time I tried Zhukov. I consider it a superior imperial stout to Huna, and that's without additives. It's right up there as a benchmark of the style with my other personal favorites, FIS, Ten-Fidy, and Speedway (yes, I realize that last one is a coffee stout).

Penultimate Push (Zhukov with vanilla) is an exceptional variant; Coconut Zhukov is excellent; and BBA Penultimate Push is pretty phenomenal. So it was an obvious choice that I should go with a Zhukov variant Greg sent my way: Marshal Zhukov's Victory Parade, an 11.3% ABV take on Zhukov, aged in bourbon barrels, and conditioned on marionberries, figs, and cacao nibs.

There aren't a lot of reviews of this El Catador Club release (go figure), totaling 2 full reviews (prior to me) and only 6 total ratings. The two reviews prior to me, I have to say, have little in common with my own experience.

I found the barrel presence quite noticeable, albeit never assertive (save on the nose). The berries were very restrained; in no way did I consider this a fruit beer, and it has very little in common with other berry BA imperial stouts (the list is surprisingly long).

Actually, all three additives worked exceptionally well to complement the base RIS tones. Instead of standing out as additives, they modified and morphed the experience of the base beer. In the case of the cacao, it shifted the bitter, roasty RIS notes toward a creamier, thicker, slightly sweeter, and far richer middle ground.

I liked this a lot. As much as base Zhukov? No way - but then, that's a top 25 beer for me. Nonetheless, it's not a smear on Zhukov's legacy, and it's a very nice variant.

A picture perfect looking Festbier. Bright gold and crystal clear with a rocky white foam. Excellent retention and lacing.

Biscuits and grassy hops. Lovely aromas.

This might be the most authentic "German tasting" Festbier I've had born from a US brewer. Freshly baked biscuits with a drop of honey and a mild herbal and dried grass finish. Wonderful.

Great feel too. Sweet with a mild amount of balancing bitterness, silky smooth and soft, plush carbonation.

Damn. This is easily one of the top Festbiers I've had this year. Maybe even ever.

    Huge thanks Derek!

Looking for something a little different this late afternoon, and this can from @SammyJaxxxx looked like it fit the bill:

Mind Over Matter is a double chocolate milk stout by Magnify. They have apparently released a few variants, of which this is one so new that I had to add it to the database. Halloween Mind Over Matter is, well, an 8% ABV double chocolate milk stout with peanut butter, toasted coconut, and caramel.

I don't so much get coconut from this, as the peanut butter and caramel take the lead. They absolutely complement normal stout tones, and while this is obviously a flavored stout upon hitting the palate, it's not over the top or gimmicky. It's really, really nice and enjoyable, and with a thick chewy body that should shame all other 8% ABV imperial stouts into hiding under a desk.

Another from @2beerdogs . Irish Red's come few and far between, but this is about as top notch (US made) as I've had. Reminds me very much of Karl Strauss, Red Trolley. Slainté and thanks again Derek!

I’ve got a couple of beers from 2SP Brewing, courtesy of @larryi86 tee’d up tonight. First up, this excellent NEDIPA. And the glassware is from another NBS BIF, courtesy of @Ozzylizard. It’s an NBS BIF exacta, baby!

Hazy peach color with a foamy bone white head, this beautiful beer has dankity dank citrus aromas from the Mosaic hops and an earthy, almost oniony component from the Simcoe hops.

The citrus flavors are vibrant tangerines and the Simcoe influence is captured in that earthy, oniony flavor that works well with the citrus flavors.

The mouthfeel is on the firmer side for the style, which I prefer. This is a beer with gravitas, and bridges that “old school/new school IPA” spectrum really well. My first beer from these guys, I’m a fan.

Pours black, with some leakage to mahogany on the edges, and a dense tan head. Lovely beer. The can describes this as an imperial black IPA with Mosaic hops, and that is readily apparent on the nose, which has the char notes you’d expect with the style, and dank citrus notes, which are not expected but welcomed, because this is a new twist on the style for me (citrus notes in a black IPA).

The taste has the requisite char notes, and there’s some milk chocolate as well, but the citrus flavors are blowing my socks off - they brighten and augment this big (8.5% ABV) beer, and create a memorable flavor experience. I wish I had a keg of this.

I didn't know if you'd hit Taps while living in SoCal. The Irish Red has won a few GABF golds, and a few other awards. And alas, it's my wife's favorite.

I believe I've been. Yorba Linda, right? In some updated downtownish area I think. Only once, and it was to meet up with some of my wife's friends during her master's years about 15 years ago.

Either way, it's a great Irish Red. Thanks again!
