Lol, I “used “ to go healthy with my snacks, like Celery with peanut butter. Stalk of celery dig into jar and repeat, 2-3 -4 stalks. I was going thru two jars of peanut butter a week, big jars too, it was insane. Gained weight, my blood chemistry kinda fell apart. Damn, it’s really good though.

Try replacing the carbs in this situation with lean protein. Takes proactivity to have stuff available in advance as protein isn’t really a snacking junk food, but helps kill those carb cravings. Have a couple hard boiled eggs,non-fried turkey or chicken breast ready, or if a quick fix Greek yogurt.

Damn that’s great, my fighting weight was about 170 lbs max, it’s like plus 50/60 now. The only was I see sub 200 again is to become a POW or get an epic case of dysentery that’s lasts months.

I grew up and spent 30 years in Chicago so White Castle was a staple in my diet lol. Yes, Arizona now has a White Castle, just opened a little while ago. I bet we see more open here once people see how crazy the sales are, all the college kids will be hammering them down.

That's bullshit. I've been waiting for them to cross the Mississippi like so many other burger joints. We are getting an in and out and I could care less. Gimme my sliders.

I've been in California for almost my entire life, and have never seen a White Castle. But dude, how could you not care less about In-N-Out? Even after all these decades, I still like In-N-Out and it is a staple in my diet. Protein style for the win. Starting wage out here is $17/hour.

LOL I was the same way before this happened. I never understood their refusal to come out West but I guess they are seeing the light. Maybe one day you will get one or more but in the meantime I will enjoy some for ya :stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue:

Not so long ago, someone posted a question about beer and dieting. I couldn't find the thread, but it inspired me to reach out and share my experience. I have been fairly successful with my weight control effort over the last year, despite not giving up beer. I really don’t think of what I am doing as a diet, more as a lifestyle change. When I hit 40 lbs over my ideal body weight (194 vs 154 lbs), I knew I needed to do something different (this was in January of 2019). It started to hurt my hips and knees and I was getting short of breath after a few flights (of stairs, not beer).

My job keeps me active, but I do not do any form of organized exercise. That said, if you do exercise, keep doing it, especially if it is one of those that suppresses appetite (like running). I started by weighing myself in the morning (when I got up) and evening (before going to bed) and noticed that the weight fluctuated typically about 2 to 3 lbs. That’s about how much water weight you lose from respiration overnight. At that point, I was really not doing anything more than observing over a few weeks. I wish I had kept a weight diary (not a bad idea).

I dropped my food intake to two meals and one (small) snack per day, started paying attention to calories (aiming for about 1500 per day), imposed portion control on myself (don’t clean your plate – good for kids, bad for folks in their mids), included the beer in the calorie count, never let myself get truly full or hungry, drank lots of hot tea and cold water to stay full, and cut out the "crazy snacking." When I say "crazy snacking," I mean absent-mindedly eating a full box of Nilla Wafers for no clear reason (yeah, I have done that).

Honestly, I never worried about beer. Beer is mostly water which contains from less than one hundred calories (for light beers) up to several hundred calories (for “big flavor beers”). Keep in mind “a pint is a pound all the world around,” e.g. 16 oz, so even though the organic components weigh slightly less than water, it is basically a pound of water. Most of that is excreted; the rest belongs in the calorie count. Also, on the aside, going to bed earlier also helps a lot – less snacking, I suspect, but there, too, the excretion angle is a thing.

In fairness, indiscretion is the spice of life, so you can overdo it once in a while, like holidays, but only so much. You need to, actually. And if you mess up, DO NOT GIVE UP: everyone messes up, this lifestyle change is a process. Actually, the weighing ritual is key here because it basically informs how you as to how you are doing at the start the day and how you did at the end -- and it gives you the opportunity to adjust. That is especially important around holidays or personal events, when you WILL mess up. I know; I am no ascetic. Wrong direction, eat less the next day; right direction, don’t overdo it.

Diet control is a daily effort: there is just too much delicious food available to most of us in the industrialized world. There just is and it will not change in the foreseeable future. I am not a qualified diet expert and what worked for me may not work for you. But taking it slowly makes sense, physiologically. It gives your body time to adjust; reset if you will. In the last analysis, though, you need to believe in yourself. I wanted to and I lost 22 lbs in just shy of 11 months. That’s a pound every 2 weeks, a very achievable goal. If I did it, I am sure you can, too.

I have lost enough weight that I can see it in my own face. In fact, enough that the fellow behind the counter at the local bagel store (where I ordered a plain mini instead of a full sized bagel with cream cheese) commented the day before yesterday. I want about 5 lbs more, which puts me solidly in the healthy range (I’m at the edge of that now). Just believe in yourself. Again, never starve yourself (that makes you eat voraciously) and don’t eat to or certainly beyond full. Beer isn’t the issue per se. Work at it slowly and steadily, set achievable goals, and you will succeed.

I started posting a winding, long-winded addition to this, but I think the following sums things up:

Moderation in consumption, regular exercise -- it's a way to life...

I'm down twenty five pounds over the past two months. I've started biking 20-30 miles every morning on a stationary bike (I've only missed four days since the beginning of October), cut out coffee and caffeine (this was tough since I drank at least 20oz every morning), monitoring my caloric intake throughout the day (beef jerky and trail mix for breakfast, trying to stick to salads if at a restaurant for lunch), and limiting my beer consumption to one day per week. I generally drink during football on Sundays. It's helped me build up my collection since I haven't stopped buying and I feel great physically. It's all about balance.

You should check out what Jeff Nippard has to say about this: .

At the end of the day, it's mostly going to be about logging all your calories (alcoholic and otherwise) and keeping what you intake below what you expend in energy.

If I'm trying to cut the calories I'm drinking 2 of the strongest beers I can find (Dragon's Milk bourbon barrel aged stout is a good candidate) instead of more lower alcohol beers

I'll admit that diet has pushed me back to lighter beers. I really love those 7-10% beers best, but now I have to treat those as an occasional indulgence, or else next thing I know I've gained 5 pounds. If I stick to beers that are generally around 100-150 calories, 8-10 beers a week doesn't really set me back much. Thankfully craft brewers have made a major push into the light beer category, so now it's not so boring. Don't get me wrong, I like a Miller Lite, but an All Day IPA can be a lot more satisfying (and clocks in at under 150 calories).

I will say that even 8-10 lighter beers a week makes it hard for me to actually lose weight. I just don't gain weight on that regimen. If I need to lose pounds I go down to under 5 beers a week.

My other dieting "trick" when drinking is to only eat a light dinner beforehand, and to couple my drinking session with something physically active, like bowling or darts. I know those aren't exactly Olympic sports, but it beats sitting on a stool.

I've quit eating solid food altogether and have switched over to a liquid pastry stout diet which consists of 5-6 'chocolate' smoothies a day. I think I've lost a few lbs, bug the best part is I no longer have bowel movements so I've saved money on toilet paper. The downside is your drunk most of the day since the smoothies are like 12% each, but this is also what makes it great.

Highly recommended for those looking for a new, cutting edge diet.
