Anybody try Baked and Layered yet? Is this the first time they canned an imperial stout?

Drinking a 16oz can of imperial coconut JD right now. Prolly a bad idea to pour it with 3 mins left in the Hawks game when I have to be up at 5:15, but oh well. Tasty beer, btw. Real tasty. Had an SMSP, and wasn't impressed. Coconut JD is waaaaaay better.

I was wondering this myself. Other than IGCCS, every German chocolate cake stout I've tried has been underwhelming. I keep looking for a good one that is accessible. If Binny's has any left this weekend, I'll pick one up.

Now that I think about it, why didn't they call Henna CPM a "German chocolate cake" version? I've never heard of a chocolate praline macaroon. Shouldn't chocolate + coconut + pecans = German chocolate cake?

I had a Baked and Layered last night. My review notes below. It's definitely a dessert beer, but not as DESSERT DESSERT as most beers I've had that embrace the pastry stout label. I quite enjoyed it. For dessert.

Pours moderately syrupy and black, with a begrudging half-finger of head. Very rich and chocolatey, with a fudge characteristic that I would say is more reminiscent of gooey brownies than a chocolate cake. The coconut is modest but present, while the vanilla and lactose are more pronounced. I get extremely subtle cherry fruit, maybe a bit of white peach on the front palate. That gives it the little bit of brightness needed to keep it from being too cloyingly sweet. The mouthfeel is also not quite as tongue-coating as expected, thinner than the appearance suggests, and that also is evidence of some restraint.

Maybe I'm a simpleton but what exactly does lactose taste like?

Drink a non-BA milk stout, preferably one with little or no adjuncts. That very distinct sweetness you get, the one that makes you say, "Yep, that's a milk stout", is what lactose tastes like.

To me, it tastes like the hint of sweetness when you drink whole milk. It could be different for everybody, but that's my two cents.

Having a Baked and Layered now. Dark chocolate on the nose, vanilla and milk chocolate take over on the taste. Great body. Coconut is very hidden. Enjoyable, but I definitely prefer some of the other canned stouts to this one.

They really are pumping out these adjuncted stouts for winter...

At this point I want a farm to table to mash tun brewer, one who grows their own stuff, bakes it themselves, then puts it into beer. None of this store bought adjuncts. None of this short cut route. I want a man's man's beer- one with chocolate, and vanilla, and rainbow marshmallows....

I assume I’ll find out in tomorrow's email, but doors anyone know if Galaxy Unicorn will be single cans or 4 pack? I’m assuming a $20 4 pack like Emerald Grouper, but haven’t seen any responses from them yet.
