As an aside, both of those are really good. Geirdannay was a real surprise when my buddy and I cracked one. We both wished we'd had bought more given the mileage.

Who knows. I’m still waiting for the distillery to release their Chinese sorghum liquor (ie, Baijiu) they mentioned they would be doing a couple years ago.

Edit: quoted your wrong message, sorry

Probably been too busy with capital projects. In the last few years they opened a large production only brewery and a distillery. Why source 2nd use barrels if you will have your own soon? My guess is the space where they would normally have barrels of beer aging is full of barrels aging spirits. Once they start emptying those they'll determine if the profit margin makes more sense to continue to use some of that space for BA beer or if they should age more spirits.

On a side note, their rum, in typical FFF fashion, is not normal. Very unique flavors and look forward to buying more of this next time I am there.

Unique in an, “I want to drink this anytime I have rum” way because it is good? Or unique like, “This is a nice change of pace every once in awhile.”?

I am a big rum fan, it is the only hard liquor I like. My favorite is Ron Barcelo Imperial from the Dominican. The FFF rum is unique in that it is high ABV for a rum (what else is new) and yet it is still very drinkable. I will put it in your category #2 (Nice change of pace).

They built an entirely new facility for the purpose of aging additional barrels though.

I think the issue is that they also have to think about distribution for those beers, and while they may sell out at the kiosk quickly, I can assure you that they can sit on shelves for quite a long time in my local market because of the bomber price point. Longer than they should for IPAs from a freshness standpoint, so then if someone buys one on a lark without seeing the date stamp, they may have a suboptimal experience and then avoid it the next time.

$40 for White Whiskey and either $90 or $110 (can’t remember) for barrel aged (19 months or so as I recall)

I am perplexed by their spirit pricing... a Gin for $70! I am unaware of many Gins at that price point. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah, it's not like it's some 100 year old place in Scotland or Kentucky. I looked at the pricing and knew I could find something better for cheaper so passed on the spirits. I think they need to price this lower to get their casual spirit or hard core beer fans to try it and perhaps expand their horizons. They aren't converting this customer at those prices.

Hmph. $40 whiskey, I am not certain there would even be trade demand to make me want to buy a bottle.

I imagine it's a lot more expensive to make gin for a small, new producer that a large, ages old one. I'm not really versed on what's more or less expensive to produce as far as spirits outside of whiskey, but I just assumed gin has additional expenses and other considerations than simpler spirits.

Indeed! There in lies the rub with many new and small artisanal producers they simply can’t compete on price, which is why places like KOVAL charge $30-50 for their Gin not $55 and $70. Ultimately they can charge what they want, I just don’t know what market they are going after. Does anyone know of any other start up distillery that right out of the gate is trying to command the tip of the spear (at least in terms of Gin)? Particularly given, no offense, their distiller has no previous pedigree in the world of spirits. It would be one thing if they brought in a Master Distiller, then I could at least wrap my head around the prices.

Had a touch of free time and decided to research Gin pricing, specifically Craft American Gin. Using a "Top 12" list of American Craft Gins from Distiller.com, I found the average price to be $36.75 (these prices are mostly from retail outlets, not sure of pricing directly from Distillery). Moreover, 18th Street Distillery (Hammond, IN) charges I believe $29.00 for their Gin, can anyone confirm this?

So Three Floyd's $70 Gin is 47% above the average price of some of the top American Gins (at least according to Distiller.com). Can't imagine their startup costs or ingredients are 47% more expensive than those that started before them. Interesting... seems like a money grab to me! However, if people pay it Salut!!
