VR is a great beer and I remember when it came out in 2014, that it was sorta easy to get..as by the week after BF..I had 8 bottles w/o much effort or any truck chasing..that being said the VR PALES in comparison to the OG Vanilla from 2010..I've been lucky enough to have it twice and its still the best BA stout i've had..bourbon soaked nilla wafers..amazing!

Funny enough, that Mexican hot chocolate one isn’t even one of the ones they’re releasing. I’m guessing it’ll be the Olla one and the cherry one. Not even gonna bother with Wheatwine. I’m not chasing anything down. I’d love the Rye one, but I’m assuming that’s not gonna be around here.

That’s fucking insane. Might make it to the croxleys event this year. Hopefully they have most of the ones I want to try.

You can probably walk into any beer shop in the state and assemble that vertical off of the shelf for half of what they are charging.

While all this holy hatred is pleasantly nostalgic enough, I think I appreciate more the feeling that nowadays the craft industry has grown, and most of us have grown with it in our thinking. This is why I find it good to know that most people nowadays think of rivals in the beer industry as competitors, not enemies, and folks who love craft beer as beer lovers, not people involved in some mission of good defined by which beer they choose on the shelf.

While you mischaracterize my feelings as hatred—that emotion is anathema to me—I otherwise appreciate your thoughtful and hopeful sentiments, Dave. But I'm afraid to say you just don't describe the world I see. Would that it weren't so...

"Enemy" may indeed be too strong a word for a vast and aggressive corporate enterprise like AB InBev but "competitor" truly flatters them and laughably understates their overwhelming financial and systemic advantages. Let them fight a fairer, gentler, kinder fight, and let my friends actually working in the industry say in unison that their presence is at worst benign rather than outright hostile, and I'll gladly revise my assessment. But not a minute before.

And although I understand the proselytizing may rub you the wrong way, the choices we make as consumers, like the levers we pull at the ballot box, all matter. Some more than others, certainly, but everything we do individually in our lives counts. It's how change happens...or not. If I can't always remember this, I try at least not to forget it.

Last year my local spot had ‘14, ‘15, ‘16 & ‘17 bottles for 9.99-11.99 a bottle. Those prices at TH are insulting. There are other options in the city.

Well enemy is what folks call those folks/entities they hate, so perhaps you should have skipped directly to the part where you try to make a clear distinction between competitor and whatever word you use to describe those entities you don't hate but publicly write pejorative commentary about them. Oops, you largely skipped that except in broad terms that are pretty much meaningless as a practical distinction.

You withhold your money and come on a public forum to advertise your actions. I can think of only two reasons for this. You wish to put ABI out of business by rallying folks to join with you in a boycott. Or, you are very proud of your boycott, and wish to let us all know how great you are to be involved in such a worthy mission of good to make sure your beer purchases aren't from businesses that have been discovered to use their clout to *** shudder shudder *** prevail upon retailers to give them favorable shelf space.

That's a mischaracterization of what ABInBev did, they bribed retailers and bars with free equipment in exchange for them pushing their brands. Even if it was just clout its still bad for consumers for them to effectively collude with retailers to push their product at the expense of others.

Look - maybe a “where to find BCBS” thread wasn’t the place for @FrederickLawOlmsted to bring it up (though it’s not that unreasonable). And I’m not shitting on people who swallowed their initial outrage and now suck from the bourbon county teat - as I mentioned, I’ve bought the beer post-acquisition too.

But a sarcastic/smug “don’t hate the player hate the game” type of post is maybe a little uncalled for, and you’ve also dumbed down how they actually operate.

People aren’t going to be able to allow their morals/conscience to correctly dictate every decision they make in life (I mention as I type this on an iPhone). Sometimes you let your desire for something win over. And that’s fine. People can still hold the opposite viewpoint, and we can still have a constructive discussion about it. People can buy BCBS without sticking their fingers in their ears going “lalalalala”

Personally, I go to Carmine Street Beers event each year, not because I like supporting AB, but because I like to support their family owned business. As previously stated in this thread I know their prices are higher, but I don’t think the ~$150 I give AB compares to the thousands spent the rest of the year at local craft establishments.
