Does anyone know of a spot that has CBS in Hartford County or nearby?

Thanks man! Picked up one of each, it’s probably gone now though, wasn’t much left.

Lagunitas Willettized 2019...infected? Grabbed 2 four packs from Luke's in Rockland. They have a bit of a sour thing going on. Like a green apple. Not terrible but not complaining either since they were like $12.69

Green apple is not an infection, that’s acetaldehyde. It is a fermentation byproduct that should be cleaned up by a healthy fermentation. Would be surprised that a brewery like Lagunitas (macro/corporate) would have this issue but can happen. I did not taste that in my one bottle for what its worth...

CBC Belmont has a bunch of Schilling - both their Dark Czech lager and their Czech Pils. A bit pricey at $14 a four pack though.

I'm not really a BCBS guy so not sure if this is a thing but total wine in natick had '17 vintages on the shelf if anyone's interested. Hadn't noticed them before.

Super informative post. Is there a reason why this "side effect" is more prevalent in stouts? Higher ABV that counteracts the boiling point of acetaldehyde?

Had a bottle yesterday and thought it was fantastic, thought it was much better than the CBS I opened the night before. That was a bitter mess. I'm planning on picking up more Willet given that price point. Hope I don't run into the issues you mentioned.

Drank my third bottle last night and I did pick up a slight green apple note which I didn't recall from the first two. I had a Celebration before the latest bottle so I'm guessing that it's more to do with palate than any major flaws with the beer itself.

It’s all about the fermentation process operating healthily. Some yeasts do have a tendency to produce more acetaldehyde but as long as the fermentation can complete it should eliminate the flavors. With stouts, especially Imperial, you do have more fermentables for the yeast to work through so that could be a factor. You’ll see acetaldehyde in low abv styles too though so it’s not exclusive to high gravity styles. Another factor is oxygen exposure to the fermenting beer, but to my point about a brewery like Lagunitas, I would be surprised at that.

Hopefully you just got a wonky bottle. Also, you could be more susceptible to picking up this flavor than others are.

Has anyone seen Trösten from Von Trapp around? Flying back tomorrow for the holiday and hoping to have some on Thanksgiving.

I thought it was very mediocre unfortunately. Given how they advertised the amount of maple they put into I expected something detectable, but I couldn't even pick up a subtle hint of maple. Maple aside I couldn't really find anything to rave about. Paid about $16 for a four pack from Boston Wine Exchange.

    I had a single.

It was very good at first, but quickly became cloyingly sweet. If I recall correctly, I got a decent amount of maple that contributed to the sweetness.
