After using www.seekabrew.com I've noticed that O-HI-O has more selection of CA beers than MI. I'd like to make a trip to Toledo to pick up what I can't get in MI. Looking for recommendations in Toledo. Cheers!
Josephs beverage on Talmage just north on I-475. Has a very good selection of craft beer and sometimes has some 3 Flyods beer too!
Is this the Andersons that was beat up in a thread recently for customer service relating to bottle reservation policy wishy washiness?
Same chain, different location. I'd also think about going to Middle Grounds(located in the Oliver House/Maumee Bay Brewing complex), The Beer and Wine Cave, and Afficianado in Perrysburg.
Thanks for all the help. Now for the next question, any of the mentioned shops have pre-release reserve lists, or heads up e-mails for limiteds coming to their store? I know my hour drive will be worth the selection of brews not available in MI, but I am also hoping to time it with some specials waiting for me. Yes, I'm looking to be that out of town guy who is hunting and has a sense of entitlement for whales.
Maybe I'm out of the loop but I don't know of any stores that do any sort of facebook/e-mail/twitter to announce releases. I really wish they would, I'm spoiled by Ann Arbor area stores.
I'm the manager of the Sylvania Andersons Beer/Wine, so if you want to shoot me a message and let me know of any specifics you are looking for I can let you know what we have, as well as anything I have heard is coming (or possibly suggest other locations that have what you are looking for. I am friends with other shop managers in the area who may be helpful as well!) Mike
For Toledo Area, Anderson's > Marino's > Josephs. All of the stores have their strengths and weaknesses. Marino's has some rare finds but some olllld dates. Anderson's will reserve/order and (other thread notwithstanding) a great staff but doesn't order enough of the more common beers. For example I wasn't able to get Great Lake's Christmas Ale there because they were sold out despite every grocery store and Sam's Club having pallets of it in stock. Joseph's selection is respectable, especially for imports, but their organization style is a mess and you sometimes find dusty old bottles that have sat for who knows how long. There's also another store somewhere downtown by the Maumee Bay Brewing Company, but I have no experience there. I'd recommend hitting the Anderson's in Sylvania and then shooting down Monroe Ave to Marino's.
Just have to ditto BSM above. If you are looking for new releases and great customer service, Anderson's Sylvania is the bomb. I love Marino's though. It has it's faults, namely, you won't get any help whatsoever, it's a disorganized mess, and your only hope of getting fresh beer is to pull them out of the boxes stacked in the aisles because it takes 2 months to make it to a shelf. But that place is like a treasure hunt. I have found the most random awesome beers there. One day I stumbled upon two Cantillon bottles covered in dust wedged behind a bunch of St. Bernardus. They still had some Aventinus from 2004 last time I was there.
