I preferred the original recipe, it was hoppier with less spice flavoring (reminded me slightly of Celebration, which is one of my favorite winter releases). But agree that it’s still a good beer.

Short post tonight: all I want to say is that I didn't expect to like Strawberry Jacket nearly as much as I do.

Been meaning to ask but is there a difference between the Strawberry Jacket released in the summer compared to this one released with VSOR? Had it the first time the other day from this release and loved it more than I thought I would also.

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the summer release, so I can't compare them. The only reflection I've heard about the first batch was that it was originally quite bright and fruity, in keeping with my take on the second batch, but months later it's become "more jammy and sweeter." That's according to one of the people I randomly sat next to at the barrel-ageing event earlier in the week of the VSOR/SJ release.

I have a can from the first release and several from the new one...a side by side tasting is in order!

They slightly tweaked the recipe for this batch to be less strawberry forward. However, I think this base of SJ is a touch sweeter. Last batch was much drier, which I preferred. This is still excellent, and most people will probably prefer it. But the dryness of the original gave it some dry red wine characteristics that I really loved.

Sounds like I would of liked the previous release more, tho this was still fantastic.
    3 more cans:cry:

Carver’s Candy is the first beer w lactose I really liked, perhaps because it lingered slightly in the background. VSOR excellent, Drusilla a solid stout.

Loved the Summer / Fall releases this year, their La Gargola Helles release led the way.

Can we hear some thoughts on this latest version of Straight Jacket compared to Jan 2019 and 2018?

small sample size (1 so far) but I’d put it in between the 2.

all 3 are great. I do like the sweeter side, so I’d go:

    2018
    2019 b2
2019 b1 (which, as a serial ticker, I still managed to check in 11 times this year)

splitting hairs/all so good, as mentioned.

Anyone know of any Cafe Deth around the northwest suburbs?

I’ve looked at a couple places but struck out.

    Thanks, all.

Most Binny's should have some still. I've been to 3 different ones in the western burbs in the past week, and each one has had a stack of it still.

BTW, speaking of Rev... has anyone seen any SJ in distro yet? I have yet to spot it anywhere.

Seen all Binny's with it and some smaller stores.
BUT then I went to Bloomington today and the HyVee had it for $28.99/4pk - $4 less than Binny's across the parking lot and $1 cheaper than at Rev?!?

Thanks for the info. It’s crazy but I’ve called the two closest to me and they told me they were sold out.

I assume Rev sells at MSRP so as not to undercut retailers. If so, it's the same reason you can get New Glarus beer cheaper a lot of places outside the brewery itself.
