they need to go back to using extract in their beers because using puree isn't working.

I’m ranking it up there because there are very few beers that I will refuse to finish and Curtains III was definitely one. Most beers I dislike I’ll still finish (hey - I paid for it). But there are just a few beers I’ve come across where I’ll willingly pay for the beer as soon as possible so the bartender will get it out of my face. Burley Oak Blueberry JREAM falls in this category.

The acidity was ridiculous. Completely unenjoyable. Also, after spending sometime in Europe and drinking tons of lambics, I’ve definitely started to enjoy the american style sour less and less.

Yes for sure. I had a 3F Armand and Gaston the other day and some reviewers mentioned the high acidity but I was pleasantly surprised at how drinkable it was, how complex it was and how manageable the sourness and acid levels were. Just a completely superior animal.

im also drinking a two year old HF Anna and while its not a “sour” per se it’s got a masterful balance of acid and oak, funk, and all it’s other elements. I haven’t had much from SARA/JK/Casey etc but we do have at least a few American brewers who can do this on the highest level.

Yea maybe I shouldn’t have generalized sours in the US. There are plenty of fantastic sours being brewed here but more often than not they are overly acidic.

I am right there with you on this. I’ve taken to only really drinking them with a cheese board where they go nicely with all that fat (and of course good bread or crackers).

I’ve had a few plan bee beers this week and while I find his brews to sometimes be on the overly acidic side I really enjoyed these (bloody, and comb in particular).

I am not sure they are “sours” but the Russian River stuff is amazing. They had to be one of the first in the US doing these types of beers, right?

Agreed those are terrific beers. Still never got to try Beatification! I was particularly fond of Temptation if memory serves.

Allagash should be in this conversation too!

Did you try herbane? If so, what did you think? My wife and I both thought this beer had a really unpleasant aftertaste. I wasn't sure if it was a bad bottle, or this is what Evan intended and we just didn't "get it".

No I haven’t had that one. He goes for a lot of wild stuff, sometimes (for me) it doesn’t work out. I feel like the overall beer quality is really high now but not everyone is going to be a winner. Evan deserves a lot of props for going for his thing and sticking to it! He does some really unique stuff.

Yea RR does some fantastic stuff.

I’m also a huge fan of Jester King and I really enjoy most of Grimms mixed ferm beers.
