Haha, good post. I know this isn’t a popular opinion but the wife is actually ok, still gives me some and I actually like my in-laws. Your counterpoints are spot on though, lol. We can’t all have an awesome supermodel MENSA wife like @rozzom but I think I did alright.

hearing a lot of not great things about all the versions except the almond joy which has favorable reviews. youd like to think this will make the next time this kind of thing drops, a bit less insane, but we know it won't. I was firmly in the "OH doesnt make above average stouts (besides Short Dark)" for a long while until I had Velvet Magnum II last year. That was the first one last year I was really super super into. The earlier SBs were good as well but VM II really took it to a level of like wow this is great. Then the All 5th stouts were really good IMO, but since then most of what has come out has been either just okay or something I'd rather not drink more than a taster of to just test it out. Way too much inconsistency, which is crazy for a place who has nailed down their IPA/Double IPA brewing very very well. Not sure what they need to do to have some type of consistency in their stouts, but maybe it takes going back to the drawing board and starting with more simple recipes that aren't over the top. That won't happen by the Pastry/Hype Bois keep the lights on. Fool me once...

The insane thing is, each one of these stouts will be rated significantly higher on untappd than the Finback BQEs coming out Saturday. I’d be willing to bet that in reality, the worst one of the BQEs will be better than the best one of the Snowbirds.

I had a full bottle of BQE in 2017 and a buddy of mine split the salted caramel one last year and they were 2 of the best stouts I’ve had in this area.

To be clear, their rating won’t be higher, but they have already sold out quicker than at finback.

    more for us...

Too bad the majority of people don't hate these stouts as much as you guys. Wouldn't have to wait in line or listen to people cry.

    Brilliant analysis!

But if I'm moved to put in the time and effort to try and craft a thoughtful answer in direct response to someone else's honest question, is it okay to do so without being subjected to glib, dismissive snark like this? And whether you agree with what I wrote or not?

For the record, I'm not asking for a friend. I'm just asking for myself. Surely, you can do better.

According to whom? General consensus on the fb group seems to be the same as here ie almond Joy good carrot cake bad.

as some one who has had 3 of the Horus bottles(Hazelnut Crown, Coconut Crown, Ruffle the Feathers) for sale tomorrow @ OH, I can say that they are worth the asking price. All 3 are textbook definitions of a Pastry Stout, very sweet and full of flavor..I rated Hazelnut & Coconut crown very similar(Hazelnut the slight edge) with RTF in 3rd.

How would they compare to one of the better OH pastries? They are already incredibly sweet. Are these more so? Less? Same? And what sets them apart from the type of thing OH puts out. I’m not buying in either case but just curious.

i'd put the Horus stouts on par or better than the top shelf OH stouts in terms of overall quality and consistency..I think the Coconut crown was very similar to the OG Snowbirds (that Almond Joy/Mounds flavor) as both were sweet and decadent. I'd say the Horus stouts are blended well with all of the adjuncts being used and each has been fairly thick and creamy in the mouthfeel
