CCB just released their Big Sound Scotch Ale aged in bourbon barrels. Anyone get the chance to try this yet? Sounds very interesting. I might just have to make a drive today if they still have some left

I have tried it and it is actually better in the bottle then on draft! I am not one for the regular Big Sound, but the flavor on this one just was awesome. Very little bourbony taste, but was easy to drink.

My friend actually picked me up another bottle around 5 today, so they still have some left, how many, I have no idea. Def worth getting a bottle if you can!

its one of the best beers i have ever had ( i am new to craft just 3 years in but i have still had some great ones). anyhow, this beer is very well made...after having it on draft, i picked up 2 extra bottles for myself. i havent had regular big sound yet, but this is one that i will be getting every year.

How does this compare to 2012 Founders Backwoods Bastard?

Given the choice, I'd take BA Big Sound over any Hunahpu's variant. For that matter I don't think there's anything CCB puts in a barrel that I prefer. Just a fantastic example of how to barrel age a beer and a great vehicle for bourbon.

Sounds good. Oh, to be a tad closer to Tampa Florida...Seeing as I can't find FBB anywhere around, Id love to find at least a semi-usable substitute for it. Any other scotch ales aged in bourbon barrels that anyone can suggest? Perhaps one that I can actually find would be even better!

As a HUGE Backwoods fan, I'd also like to know this. I have more than enough Backwoods, on the hedge about chasing BA Big Sound because if it's not on the Backwoods level, I'm not sure if this will be worth the ammo to get it. Plus, Backwoods gets points for being in a 12oz bottle...

If this was Cigar City, I'd not even bothing thinking about getting it. Damn them.

I have both BA Big Sound and Backwoods Bastard and personally i think BA Big Sound is light years ahead Backwoods. The Malt Character is more complex in BA BS, the Bourbon is richer with the mouthfeel we have all grown to love from CCB. Backwoods bastard is bit nuttier but a bit thin, where BA BS is amped in every aspect of It's class with the body of a big stout or barleywine. I love the base beer for BA BS, and i also like Dirty Bastard as well but when you taste both their BA versions you can see, feel and taste BA BS superiority.

I have had the BA B/Sound on tap but have not opened any bottles yet, As good as this ale is you DO want to go get some.

Agreed on virtually every point. The beers are not very similar despite being the same style on paper. Big Sound is more of a Wee Heavy/Stout hybrid.

I've had the regular Big Sound and was absolutely blown away by it. It's the best wee heavy I've ever had, period. The BA example can only be that much better since I love bourbon. I'd be done for a trade if anyone feels generous, I'm only a State away from FL.
