Believe it or not, we've got just a little more than 2 weeks left in 2019. With the new year on the horizon, what are your beer related goals for 2020? If you had set a goal(s) for 2019, how did you do in accomplishing them?

For me personally, I reduced the amount of beer I purchase in 2019, and my goal is to both continue that trend in 2020 as well as reduce the number of bottles in my cellar. Finally, I want to be more deliberate in revisiting some of my old favorites. I often will pass up an old favorite to try something new. This year I want to focus on revisiting some of those old favorites that I tend to pass over.

    2020 goals:
    1. Meet more BAs
    2. Continue to encourage and participate in bottle shares

Drink less, exercise more, lose weight ( this sound familiar anyone???)

I also want to revisit old favorites. There are so many new, local offerings out there and I have neglected my "roots" beers. SNPA, Germans and Belgians, even something like Little Kings. These are the stepping stones and a few of them are in danger of exiting due to the influx of the new, local offerings I have been paying so much attention to lately, so I feel the need to show appreciation.

    Some goals are;
    • Get further on my all-state quest, perhaps reaching it
    • Finally try TG KBBS
    • Stop growing my cellar when I mostly drink new beers

Reduce the overall amount of beer I drink
Get a beer from WV which is the last state I need to get all of them
Get to try beers from places like Monkish, Parish, Casey, Suarez and Veil.

My goal is to completely leave FOMO behind. I am going to enjoy the beer that I get and not worry about the rest.

    1. Grow my cellar with bulk purchase of beers I know I like with age
    2. Stick to my plan to go one week a month without beer (made it about 6 months this year)
    3. Get back on a beer budget

If I accomplish those things I'll be a happy camper. Last year 2 and 3 from the above list were the goals and I did one of them halfway and didn't do the other at all, let's be better this year

Without going into repetitive detail from WBAYDN, I now have a lot more freedom. Meeting other BAs is such a tremendous joy for me. I want to meet 25 new BAs in-person in 2020. I could probably pull that off just going to Chicago, IL. I am 42-years-old, and in the best shape of my life. The key to that is extremely simple. Only buy healthy food. Never have the option to eat unhealthy, in your own house. Then, run. All the time. If you eat healthy and run all the time, you can drink a lot of beer, while losing a lot of weight, in addition to having your health improve in every way. I want to drink more beer, more often, while improving my health and fitness, as I have been doing the second half of 2019. It is amazing how only buying healthy foods can increase your budget for beer, so I want to spend more money on beer in 2020, while saving more money for the future.

Hey. That was me last year. This year I'm going to throw out my scale and drink a beer while I'm walking. Maybe I'll actually make this 1 happen.

I'd been trying to cut calories everywhere but with beer for far too long and finally got real about my habits in the past couple months. I've gone from 2ish beers a day to 4ish beers a week and I hope to keep that up in the new year.

And for anyone who thinks that 2ish beers a day doesn't sound like much, I should add that I also have a bourbon habit :flushed:. Something had to give.

The most popular resolution in these threads every year is always "shrink my cellar." Maybe you should reconsider your first goal.

    1) Improve my cellaring discipline. If I buy something to sit, let it sit.
    2) Increase quality and decrease quantity.
    3) Decrease glassware compulsion. Major/favorite breweries only.

Haha maybe in a couple years, right now my cellar is barely a case of beer, 1 six pack each of Bigfoot and narwhal and some other random stouts. I definitely want to put 2 6 packs of Bigfoot in there next month and I'm going for some more barleywine...can't imagine how the shrink the cellar resolution catches on:thinking_face:

Reduce my beer buying, reduce my beer drinking. I went completely alcohol free for 2 months in 2019 and it was amazing how much better I felt and how it impacted my overall health. I don't plan to stop because I enjoy a good beer but 2020 hopefully includes less for me.
