I always think beer goals as more of a 'would love to...' rather than a 'GOAL'. I focus a lot of effort on my running, hiking, etc. goals. Those I am honed in on and am really driven to accomplish within the time frame, sometimes with only one chance in a year (or less) to accomplish. Beer goals are more about what I'd like to do, with most of my beer goals centered around 'the journey' of trying new beers. In this case, an emphasis on visiting new places and trying classics I may have overlooked in the past. But regardless of these 'goals', I'll still be drinking good beer and visiting fun breweries all of 2020.

Thanks! It's more about focusing on the classics and trying some beers I either haven't had in years or never committed to trying, and sprinkling in some new places/breweries along the way.

I’ve been holding steady for several years now, balance of keeping about 10-15 beers in cellar, mix of drinking classics and trying new beers and muling home great out of state beers when on travel or drinking great beers while on travel. Usually my cellar replenishes with a few beers when I return from travel (or I need to restock with a few Founders BA beers). Also I make a home brew batch each winter. Mostly just to give me something to do. I don’t love home brewing overall (I find it kinda stressful to be honest) but I like to experiment and enjoy the fact that friends and family enjoy my homebrews.

    Personal beer goals:

    • to taste at least one of each style on BA. I’m getting close!

    • post reviews on a more timely basis. I’m in the habit of taking notes, but I don’t do anything with them for months at a time.

    • revisit old favorites, quality over quantity, and don’t sit too on the cellar. I waited too long and had a few disappointments for some special occasion beers that were past their prime.

    Industry goals:

I follow the conversations around diversity closely, both here and elsewhere. These need to continue. I hope the industry as a whole recognizes the importance of diversity and makes concrete efforts to be more inclusive.

    1. I already know I won’t cut back on beer.
    2. Exercise more (even though I already do, but not quite enough).
    3. Home brew more and create more recipes for my own “one of these days” brewery.
    4. Now that the kids are a bit more manageable, start traveling and visit more out-of-state breweries.

    GOALS:
    1. Visit some Belgian breweries (almost any would do, but Brasserie de la Senne and 3 Fonteinen would be fun, along with Cantillon).
    2. Visit San Diego (how the F*** have I never been there?)
    3. Get to Chicago at least twice if I can, and three times if at all possible.
    4. Explore more of the Denver beer scene (hard to keep up with...)
    5. Continue with weight-beer-food-joy regimen.

    1) Take a brewers class at the local community college.
    2) Visit more breweries. Because they have the freshest beer!
    3) Drink more beer.
    4) Drink more beer.
What can I say, I like beer!

My goals will be the same as the past couple years:

1 - Visit at least 12 new (new to me) breweries during the year
2 - Reduce the cellar inventory

I am always trying to try different breweries. There are some really good, relatively unknown ones out there to be discovered. My focus is getting my hands on the ones that are hard to come by. Usually local to their area.

Given the amount of people suffering from this crippling issue, my goal is to start a beer cellar reduction business where for a high hourly rate I will come over with a pair of pint glasses and assist in the reduction of beers in your cellar. I'll be the Marie Kondo of beer. I'll call the business "Rent-a-Neckbeard"

I refuse to calculate how much I've spent on beer the past few years so to say I want to spend "less" or "more" this year would be pointless. I'm good with my spending anyway.

My goals this year are pretty much the same as last:
    • Drink down cellar (it's a waste of space)
    • No more verticals (I'd barely have a cellar if not for verts plus the stuff I've been saving isn't interesting to me anymore)
    • No more 750ml bottles (or larger formats—these always get drank last, if ever)
    That's pretty much it.

I did pretty good on the 'no verticals' thing. It made it easier when I purposely drank bottles out of the middle of some verts I had going. Boom! No more vert, no more worry, lol.

The 'no 750s' thing is another matter. I've avoided making some purchases when 750ml was the only format, but not all of them. Thankfully, more and more breweries are moving away from larger formats.

    Cheers!

    Goals for 2019:
    • Reduce cellar (accomplished what I set out to do)
    • Advance American, Russian Imperial Stouts list (made satisfactory progress)
    • Advance Oatmeal and Milk Stouts list (satisfactory but still a long way to go)
    • Advance Beers of Fame list (got a few but getting really hard now)
    Goals for 2020:
    • Become a Society member (planned in January 2020)
    • Advance (complete) Beers of Fame list (currently 217 of 250)
    • Advance (complete) Beers by Style list (currently 38 of 111)
    • Advance (complete) beers from all US states (currently 44 of 51)
    • Advance (complete) beer styles (currently 109 of 111)
    • Advance to having a beer from 25 countries (currently 24 of 25)
    • Advance to having 2,500 different beers (currently 2008 of 2500)
    • Advance American Imperial Stout list (currently 48 of 100 with 5 reserved for 12 beers of Xmas)
    • Advance Russian Imperial Stout list (currently 43 of 100)
Their may be others for 2020 but these are plenty.

I'm kicking around the idea of not drinking beer at all in 2020 for some personal goals to be achieved. It would be very distressing because I love beer and partaking in this site. I could still be active in forums. We shall see. I will not decide until very late december.

Last year when this question was posed, I wrote about managing my time better, so I would have more time to drink and review/post pics of beer.

This idea has now been modified to accommodate the future.

I am going to spend more time just drinking beer for the sake of drinking beer and less time reviewing. I do not feel the need to write about every beer I drink and when guests are over, the “phone” goes on the charger, in another room. Yesterday I had some friends over during the game, so I wasn’t about to take pictures and write stuff, so I missed an opportunity to add two new beers to NBS and five beers to WBAYDN. No big deal, there will be plenty of opportunity once the holidays have passed, and football season is over.

Happy Holidays, New Year and Beer drinking.

    So those are my goals. Reality will be;
    • Gain a couple more states accidentally
    • Continue whining about not having had KBBS, but making no real effort to land one
    • Continue stocking up on favorites I rarely drink
    • Continue disregarding beer calories, because hey it's a liquid and that doesn't count
    • Continue to buy beer glasses I'll rarely use and beer shirts I won't want to risk staining/ripping
    • Spend way too much on cult beers that are often disappointing and/or allowed to fade in the cellar
    • Pretend I don't know what truck-chasing is all about, or their routes

For me , i just want to continue discovering. Never drinking in excess , but always finding new beers and styles. I want not to just fall back on what i already like , but to explore the seemingly infinite horizons that beer has to offer , while still being able to enjoy the beer i know i already enjoy.
