    Hi All,

The subject says it all: what is the best option to stop between NYC and Stowe to have a family lunch with good beers and pick up some cans nearby? It doesn't need to be the same place for both, but preferably close. We did Whetstone Station for lunch and cans at the Brattleboro Food Co-Op a couple of times, which wasn't bad, but would like to try something else. Maybe in MA rather than VT, since we'll be near Stowe for about a week and will have access to a few breweries there.

    Thanks!

Can cans be from a brewery?
Brick and Feather in Turner Falls, MA (just off 91).
Supposed to be very good but I have never been.
River Roost in White River Junction, VT (just off 91).
Is very good. I have been.

I believe there is both a bottle shop and a bbq joint in the same parking lot as River Roost.
Supposed to be good but I have never been.

The BBQ joint next to River Roost is called Big Fatties- It is great and has something for everyone- BBQ, excellent salad bar, comprehensive tap list, and toys for little kids. There is also a small bottle shot next to it, but I don't think it opens up to 2 or 3 pm.

That combo looks great. Thanks for the tip.

Of course, cans from brewery would work, thanks. I don't know much about Brick and Feather, will take a look.

Brick & Feather was going to be my suggestion too. And there's a couple of places to eat in Turners that are good, Riff's Joint is always super solid- salad, sandwiches, burgers, Mexican food. Everything made from scratch, don't know if the one in Turner's has a bar but you might be able to grab a beer with lunch too.

Go the thruway>northway route thru Albany - several places in Albany/Saratoga for lunch/beers (city beer hall, Henry st, much longer list if you need it) and hit Burlington>Waterbury>Stowe

If I was on my own, I would, but with the family, we'd stick to 91-89-100 to minimize the time on the road.

If you want to hit something on the early side of the drive, I’d get pizza in New Haven at any of Modern, Pepes, Sally’s or Bar and then pop out to NEBCO and Amity liquor right nearby. Then make your run top VT.

Even though the beer is not as top notch as other places, I always enjoy stopping for lunch or dinner at the Harpoon Windsor brewery. It's a little ways south of the I-89 junction along I-91. They also serve some Clown Shoes beers after the acquisition and have the City Roots cider brand. It really depends how far up you or the rest of the family want to stay in the car before stopping...

and don't forget Northampton Mass, tons of great beer and restaurants in the area. Also, Hope and Olive in Greenfield is great.

Good call but depends on how he's getting to 91, my guess would be 684 to 84 to 91, not through New Haven.

It wouldn’t even occur to me to go that way from NYC! And I’m good with directions and lived here my whole life. That said, there are two DeCiccos along 684 for an extra stop!

Deciccos is top notch (and if you're going from NYC to Stowe you can probably afford it ;-))

Big Fatty's BBQ is worth a stop for sure ... It was a great stop on one of the last trips knowing by the time I got to where I was going all of the stores would have been closed and showing up beerless was not an option. ;-)

Agree with the quoted messages above. Great little beer store with crowler station attached to BBQ place with lots of food options and an excellent tap list that always has VT's best. Both 20 ft (same parking lot) away from River Roost which typically has cans available to go. If you don't feel like BBQ for your lunch stop there are multiple other restaurants you can walk to from this location (public parking) including Trail Break Tap and Tacos, Phnom Penh Sandwich Station, Piecemeal Pies, Tucker Box, Elixir,etc...

Thanks for all the recommendations. We'll probably stick to People's Pint/Ryan and Casey or try Brick & Feather.

Head up 100 and hit Long Trail, Lawson's, and the Warren Store before you hit Waterbury.

Thanks everyone for recommendations. People's Pint was great: low key, good food, very friendly people. Ryan and Casey was also low key, but somewhat disorganized: lots of old cans, half of them are not priced, and random in terms of what sits in what fridge, as the beers from the same brewery are on multiple shelves or on the floor all over the store.

We will probably hit Lowson's on the way back. And, as expected, enjoying fully a great selection of Alchemist IPAs: Skadoosh XXXVI and Rapture are absolutely delicious.
