It's cool. I am too. I just assume that these babies are down for whatever. Everyone I have seen have talked mad trash, and just came from a really cool Lake - Hepatitis Lake:

Chiming in briefly on the kid outside in line issue. Why I’m perpetuating this conversation, I have no idea. If the child is fed, hydrated, properly clothed, sheltered in a stroller or the like, it’s not much colder than 30 or so, mom needs a break, and there’s nowhere more important the child and dad need to be, then I really don’t see the big deal. As one poster put it above, surely this is a Donor Party situation where they’ll all perish! Seriously. The damn child will be fine and is being socialized, which is a good thing, especially in today’s social media/internet world. (Disclaimer: I have no children yet, but plan to)

Oh man. I completely agreed with you on the weather statement and said of course everyone would agree taking a kid to a release in 30* weather is a fucked up move because you're literally endangering the child. I would never do that, because 1) danger and 2) There's no chance of him having fun while shivering in line.

There's no way we're spending that many hours with him in a car, driving to 5 different states. The only out of state trip we've driven is for Chicago releases and that's because it's so close. And yes, the fact he's gotten to play in the ocean, see New England in the fall, spend weekends in big cities, etc has been amazing. Not all family trips have to be to Disney World and yes we would much rather spend our money traveling than on some bullshit sitting at home.

I know you did, but I'm literally only talking about the weather factor in my posts, and have since the beginning, and you seem to keep posting in defense of people doing it. It doesn't make sense to me. Oh well.

Not everyone would agree, though. As evidenced by the multiple people I always see standing in line with a child under one year, in sub-freezing temperatures. I've stood in a whopping 3 lines ever, because I just don't care to chase beer much more than that. And every one has had at least a couple people with an infant in line, in sub-freezing temps, sometimes in rain/snow, for beer. It's ridiculous to me. Those parents = don't deserve to be parents in my eyes.

Don't have kids, but I'll tell you all about them, and how they'll be just fine! :poop:

Young children have a lowered immune system. They're more at risk for bacterial and viral infection, and their body is less adept at fighting it off. Pneumonia can and does kill very young children, quickly. Why risk it for beer? Pneumonia is the leading cause of death in children under 5, accounting for 18% of deaths in children under 5.

I wouldn't bring my kids to a beer release where we had to stand in line, it's just not something I would consider doing. And if I did consider it my wife would probably smack me.

This is a different situation (not in this county, not a beer release), so take it for what it is, but I find this pretty interesting...

I've read that before. It is interesting. The difference being, is that it's Stockholm, Sweden. Somewhere that in the summer, the highs are like 70 degrees.

yes, that’s why I stipulated to all the assumptions necessary to be ok with it. Taking a child to a park where 30 potential cold virus infected children are playing and touching everything risks your child developing infection and potential pneumonia following therefrom as well. I’m a believer in exposing children to elements, physical, mental, social, environmental, etc, so they develop experience with it, including developing immune systems. There’s a reason why a child who hasn’t been taken to a nice restaurant until he/she is 5 years old is a terror while sitting in a nice restaurant.

Well yeah, to an extent, that's fine. Bringing them to a beer release to stand in line for 4 hours in cold weather... just... why? It's unnecessary risk. I just don't see the point. Skip the beer if you can't get a sitter.

As for the restaurant thing... yeah, the child has bad parents. That's the reason. To think that a child can't behave well if they've never been brought to a restaurant... is naive, to put it nicely.

Time to drop the convo from my end, though. We're way off topic.

The only beer event children should attend is Great Taste of the Midwest as it is outdoors so there is plenty of space for them to run around and they can drink with parents permission.

Everyone has differing opinions, and that’s perfectly ok. It’s those who demand their opinion is the accepted one and insult everyone else’s are the problem. I don’t scold those who say children shouldn’t be in a cold line for several hours. That’s a fair perspective. I, and others, have a different perspective. It’s really as simple as that.

I opened a can of this year's Ryeway last night and thought it was absolutely fantastic. It's the best recurring Deep Woods beer, even with the slighter dip in quality IMO from last year.

IMO the differentiator for Rev is that they are able to get the nuances out of barrels instead of throwing a bunch of adjuncts/additives in. When they do put in an adjunct/additive, it's complimentary to the base beer without overpowering the barrel character that they worked hard to get. They're also, from what I've read, blending every single batch of their barrel aged can releases at this point and the one off tap only are usually single barrels or blends of a few barrels that are exceptional. I think what a barrel program should reflect the barrel and not the extra stuff that goes into it otherwise we should call them adjunct or additive programs.

Does anyone know if any of the Binny's got a second drop of Deth by Plums? I don't see it on their website.

Is this different from other large barrel programs? Is GI not blending every batch?

Sorry wrong thread .. this is the children at beer releases thread ... oh wait.
Dunno about a second drop, but most of they still have 4-packs. Call ahead if you are planning to stop in and look for some.

So I stopped in the Binnys in Bloomington yesterday while I was there for work and grabbed the 4-pack of Ryeway they had. Didn't realize until I went to pay for it that it was 2017 Ryeway. I still ended up buying it - we'll see how its held up since my 2017 4-pack was drunk long ago.
