For beers to go in Bozeman check out Mountain Walking. They are cannning Grazing Clouds, a solid NEIPA, and it’s $10 a four pack pints. MAP has a crowler machine but Ale Works just has beers on tap. The Co-Op downtown has had some fun local bottles and cans the last couple times I was through, and also regional stuff including Melvin 2x4 and Oskar Blues Bamburana.

If you are staying three nights in Livingston check out The Timber Bar in Big Timber, it’s a 34 mile drive but worth it. He has a lot of vintage big bottles including Deschutes, Firestone Walker and had some ‘14 BCBS last time I was there. It’s verified on Untappd and has his bottle list.

If you can make it to Billings I highly recommend Überbrew and Bar MT. Both have crowler machines and a bunch of fun local stuff on tap. Über has won quite a few GABF awards including small brewery of the year. Thirsty Street is bottling some quality sours as well. All are within a few blocks of each other.

Thanks both so much. Our itinerary is pretty tight, but hopefully we can hit up a bunch of the places mentioned in your two posts.

    Cheers!

Another option I’d highly recommend in Missoula is Guild. It’s fairly new and a super cool space. Beer might not blow your mind but they usually have a ton of styles on tap and everything I’ve had there has been good to great. It’s three levels with a bar on each and decent food. Not sure on beer to go. Missoula is also the place to buy bottles and what not, a few random markets that have good selections of beer. Last few times I went to the Dram Shop the taplist was pretty beat. Really like Imagine Nation.

    Can’t help you with Butte.

Mountains Walking in Bozeman is maybe the more modern brewery. Beers are good. Nordic Brew Works is a new spot. Food is great but kinda spendy. Brewer there was head production brewer at Melvin and was at Trumer, Lagunitas, and Victory before that. Really solid beers, especially hoppy stuff. Not sure on beer to go, I’m sure they have growlers. MAP keeps getting better and I was happy with the stuff I had there this winter.

Looks like Katabatic is your best option in Livingston. Beer is fine. Typical Montana craft beer, tap list like you might see 10 years ago in a lot of places.

Helena and Billings have great breweries, maybe some of the best in the state but again not really on your loop.

Thanks for all of these. Both Gild and Nordic Brew Works look good and importantly, like places that will get some wife approval, which will definitely help.

Butte (mining stuff) and Great Falls (closer to Glacier) are her call, so you know, got to make the most of my opportunities where we're going to be.

    Thanks again all, Cheers.

Butte does have some crazy history, the Berkeley pit is pretty incredible. I have never really cared for the breweries in Butte but theres a little gem in Anaconda, Smelter City Brewing that’s just off the interstate. Enjoy your trip let us know what you think.

    Missoula Bottle Share?

Short notice for you guys, but I’m going to be in Missoula the evening of Friday, June 7th. I brought some nice bottles, mostly from Seattle/Western WA. Anyone want to hang out and drink some beer? I have one bottle each of:

    -Fremont Brewing: 2018 BBADS-Coffee Edition, 2018 Coconut B-Bomb, 2018 The Rusty Nail, Brew 3000

    -2018 Crux Tough Love 750mL

    -Structures Brewing Navigation Saison

-Garden Path Fermentation The Prime Barrel Age Saison

-Mirage Brewing 2018 Cible Mouvante Saison w/ Pinot Noir must

Would anyone be able to host? Or do you know of a public BYOB venue? I’m staying on the West side of town, but I have a car. PM me if interested.

    Cheers!

I haven’t received any responses yet. I’ll also be available Saturday night if that is more feasible for any of you.

I live in Livingston. Of the 2 breweries in town Katabatic will have 2-3 IPA’s on tap. They are solid IPA’s but nothing memorable. Neptune’s has an eatery and a tap room in town. 2 separate locations. Tap room has better selection, the latte stout and chocolate porter are both good. If you have time, try to go to the Murray Bar in Livingston. They will have a good selection of Montana beers. The Murray can get pretty loud/rowdy once the music starts at 9:30. Highly recommend!

We just got back from our trip this Tuesday and had a great time!

On our way out to MT we picked up some beers from Community Pint in Spokane and I really liked that place, good selection on draft and in the chillers.

Stopped at Gild in Missoula after missing the 8pm brewery tap room cut offs, which was a little disappointing. I thought the Gild beers were so so, but the tacos were decent.

We really enjoyed Murray Bar in Livingston and i thought the Map beers that I had there were really pretty good IPA's the Strange Cattle maybe edging it. Thought the food from Gils that was served at The Murray was great too. Would have tried the breweries in Livingston but for staying in Yellowstone so late!

In Bozeman we did stop at Mountains Walking and I really enjoyed their Apricot Sour and thought the NE IPA was solid too. My wife liked the dry IPA they had so we took 6 of that to go. Finally in Great Falls I had an IPA from Mighty Mo which may have been Lil Ripper but was definitely from the Sip and Dip Lounge. Interesting place, glad they had some local beer on.

Thanks again for all the tips, we really enjoyed traveling and drinking in MT!

Will be in Big Sky and Bozeman in January. Based on above looks like Map, Mountain Walking and Bridger are the go to's. Anything in Big Sky worth a stop? Nordic space looks pretty fantastic as well.

Bunkhouse is pretty good in Bozeman as well. Big sky has 2 breweries Lone Peak, and Beehive Basin. I haven’t been to either in a long while. Enjoy the powder!

My buddy brought me a growler from beehive for my wedding as well as a crowler, I enjoyed both offerings. Its been awhile since I've been to Lone Peak, but they are pretty decent froom what I can remember!

Nordic Brew works has some solid beer. Brewer there has a ton of experience some really high level breweries in his past. Beers might be a little more classic in style but are all incredibly well executed.

Beehive is the spot to go in Big Sky. Cool little spot that’s always packed after skiing. Beers are good. Personally I’d recommend the darker beers over the lighter stuff.
