I really like the base stout used and I really enjoy the ones I have. They recently went from $12+ per 16oz in bottles to cans at $8.55, so @RobNewton is right in saying that they are great value... and I think really nice beers, I can enjoy finishing them, and also I think that there are rare "misses", nearly every stout is good to very good, although very similar. ABV tend to be 8-9%. Really nice mouthfeel, and some are sweet. I would say Impermanence is a pastry stout, as are Homemade (which is a hot fudge sundae) and Candy Shop (caramel) for sure! For me, OH has had enough misses and enough beers where I do not enjoy the last 8oz , so I am trying to be more selective and ignore the hype!

In between all of these diabetes bombs, can OH not find the tank space to brew 1 batch of Short, Dark & Wired? It's been over a year!

My definition of a pastry stout is any stout sweet enough to replace dessert at the end of a meal, which is pretty much every beer self-identified as a pastry stout (that I've ever had).

    ^Yes!

I will now also do my part here in the #189pagesbytheendof2019 campaign...

I refuse to believe FLO actually reverted to his former seemingly thin-skinned ways in his last post. I choose to believe that post was, in reality, a shrewdly calculated (and lengthy :+1:) ploy to build up the post count here, his own effort to reach the lofty goal of 189 pages. Disappointingly, not enough of you rose to the bait and responded with some wordy replies of your own to either 1.) gently talk him back from the virtual precipice of sanctimony he appeared to be edging back toward OR 2.) tell him to lighten the f*@k up Frederick. Or maybe you saw through his ruse, and through some misguided, spiteful notion decided to ignore him, thereby missing a collective opportunity to further build the page count. Whichever, I now ask, in the spirit of the approaching holidays, that you let your inner creative writers out and not be so miserly with your keystrokes. Please, give generously. Thank you.

Ya'll are giving up some easy buckets by not posting your top 3, 5, etc. OH beers of 2019.

Full disclosure that my memory sucks and I don't track ratings anywhere. Also, I only started getting regular access since September when they started their weekly Maryland drops. That being said, here's what I remember standing out in the moment.

    - space ghost
    - mashed potato beach sunrise (recency bias)
    - hello gentlemen and will
    - you can't see birds at night
    - DDH double citra daydream
    - snowbirds 3
    - plates on plates (recency bias #2)

I was curious where the term pastry stout came from, and apparently it was created by the IG account dontdrinkbeer as a joke (worth the follow btw). Neither beeradvocate nor untappd classify stouts as pastry stouts and stouts that clearly fall into this category are listed as american imperial stouts.

Adjuncts have been a part of stouts for a really long time, so I don't think the addition instantly makes a stout pastry. I don't think anyone would say CBS is a pastry, but Maple Creamies and The Game is Thick certainly are. I think there's a line that is crossed where the adjuncts just take over the beer and you get into overly sweet/boozy territory.

TH probably gets into that territory. I agree with Scott that Impermanence is probably a pastry stout, but they make plenty others that probably aren't.

hmm, I will play but first, are we going on only new beers created in 2019, or we including classics with insanely good batches in 2019/reimagined/redone in 2019?

Untappd has a pastry stout option with BAIGCCS at the top.

In terms of new OH-only beers, I was a huge fan of Enhance Your Mind and Cream on the Inside Green on the Outside. I'd definitely welcome both to the regular rotation with open arms.

Also Vapor Ringz is an instant classic, but I'm not sure if that debuted this year.

Ah, in that case... my point is exactly the same, and you're still in line and not on line.

If I paint a stripe on the sidewalk and stand on it, I'm definitely "on line" but also definitely not "online". Not really sure how anyone can ever literally be "in line", but they can certainly be "inline". So maybe everyone is wrong?

HDHC ACE and anni beers are the standouts that come to mind. On top of hop showers; obviously

Also favorite moments in this thread. There are a few. The Great Labor Day Weekend Meltdown comes to mind

You're not standing "in" a line on the sidewalk. You are certainly "in" a line of people waiting for BA DDDH PastryboiDreamz 5.

You’ve convinced me to change my mind as I was originally going to tell FLO that his response to @jrnyc seemed out of line. It sure seemed like a good-natured poke at how wordy FLO’s posts can be. Then I decided not to bother. So now I am posting my original reaction and in turn doing my own small part in helping the page count.
