Double Groove is now open for tours. They plan to have beer available to the public on January 22, but they said that is a tentative date based on how the brewing process goes.

This collab was delicious. No date yet for opening but yesterday said "big announcement coming soon" and based on pics I've seen I'd wager that announcement will be for an opening date in January. More info when I've got it.

Also, no official space yet and I'm not sure where they brew but look out for Talea Brewing from NYC. Just had a sour IPA of theirs yesterday (12oz can, which is a welcome change) and it was absolutely delightful. Skews more jammy imperial Berliner than IPA I think but that's mainly semantics.

I just saw that a local place by me has cans from Woodstock Brewery, the IPA, the kolsch and the DIPA. Does anyone have any experience with this brewery? Any good?

The new brewery is owned by Feldmeier Equipment Co. of DeWitt.
    From the article
Running a brewery to promote your business of building a brewery might not be a bad idea.

Excellent stuff. The kolsch has a lemon-lime tinge to it which makes it super refreshing, the IPAs are great and they do excellent Belgian saisons too. Gotta go to the brewery for the latter, though, no keg or can distro on them that I've seen.

Well, I was wrong on it possibly being delayed. They'll be opened by this weekend.

A spot slipped under my radar. I am shamed.

Blake Snake Brewing Company opened about a month ago in Slaatsburg (bit north of Poughkeepsie). It's on a rustic old farm and really looks beautiful, I'm gonna try and check it out next month when I go down to see what's good with Zeus.

So just to kind of aggregate things for myself (and anyone else who is interested), we've got the following spots slated to open within the next six months in the Greater Capital Region:

    - Wayward Brewing in Scoharie
    - Bound by Fate in Schuylerville
    - Great Sacandaga in Broadalbin
    - Rail to River in Ravena
    - Bye-I in Waterford
    - Paradox's new spot in the ADK's

And then to expand a little:

    - Bagg's Square in Utica
    - Zeus in Poughkeepsie
    - Apex in Monroe
    - Foreign Objects (I wanna say this is Monroe too? I forget)
    - Square Knot in Canandaigua
    - Wild East in NYC
    - Tin Barn in Middletown

Gonna be a great year of beer travel!

I had a friend visit last weekend and bring me a can of their Entropy. It was pretty good.... didn't knock my socks off but good enough to give me hope that they're onto something.

Wow, I didn't know that Empire went out of business. I imagine that I will still see six-packs of Empire Beer festering on the shelves at Oliver's Beverages, in Albany, for another year or more. Just like the Mendocino & Saratoga that they still have for sale.

I don't know that they fully did. The owner was like $6M in debt on that farm brewery and sold/divested of that and presumably made at least most of the money back, but the Armory Square spot only closed because the landlord jacked rent up by three times what it was. So I don't know if Empire is done forever, though I don't know how they could continue without their spot in Armory Square.

I imagine they did way more business off proximity, longevity and "oh, there's a brewery!" than off the merits of the beer itself.
