Sorry to ask a serious question. Having someone stop by the Fenway location tomorrow to pick up some to-go bottles. Should I pass on the BA hot chocolate based on experiences others have had with surprises like this?

Not being snarky, not sure if I understand this question. Would you like a barrel aged chocolate peppermint stout? Trillium BA stouts are generally solid.

I would certainly like to try it, but I'm a bit wary of spending $26 for what might be a bunch of off beer thrown into a barrel. Just wondering what others' take is with more experiences with trillium stouts. I think I've only had a few of the regular stouts in cans.

Probably the wrong place to get a straight answer. Most of the people on here are miserable. What I really don't understand is the people who don't give Trillium the time of day anymore and don't drink their stuff but still check this thread to make it known to everyone.

With that said, I bought 2 bottles myself and am looking forward to trying them. I like most of their BA stuff. I'm enjoying how their releasing these specialty type beers around the holidays (thinking back to Halloween and now this release before Christmas).

it’s a steep price to pay, but all their beers are expensive. I’m sure it will be at the very least, a decent barrel aged stout. If you like the description give it a try. The people complaining about these being infected or off batches are morons with zero evidence of their claims.

I'm actually surprised Night & Day didn't stick around for to go purchases. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure regular and the three variants stuck around for weeks last year.

That helps! I'll roll the dice on what could be a fun beer for the Christmas holiday. I lined up 2 years ago to spend this same price for bottles of CBS (ugh), so why not.

Confirmed - I bought 2 variants of Night and Day last year at least a week after release (and not the pepper one). I was at Fenway today and saw the current one available if anyone's looking for it. Great beer.

Fingers crossed that they’re barrel aging the rest of the batch

This Threads release sounds delicious. Not too familiar with a "Stock Ale" but if its close to a Barleywine, I'm all about it.

Old school blending method because those big styles back in the day were oak-aged and because of a lack of knowledge of yeasts, they traditionally came out a little tart/funky, so they'd blend some fresh old ale/barleywine to balance it out, least that's what I remember. Hill Farmstead Peleg is an attempt at recreating a historical interpretation of an old ale and it had a slight vinous twang to it.

I think the Trillium beer is more of an exercise in creating an interesting flavor profile by blending multiple barrels; though by saying stock ale, if it comes out a little funky, they can claim they were sticking to historical tradition:wink:

Initial facebook reviews note barrel aged Crest as a tasting note. Still inconclusive if it's actually crest or colgate.

This Stock Ale sounds quite exciting - at 15.7% it's looking like the strongest ABV beer Trillium has ever put out...am curious to see how those adjuncts will effect a stock ale as the only one I'm really familiar with is North Coast's, and in addition to their base non BA beer, their barrels are either bourbon, cognac, etc. - but not mixed. No adjuncts. Interesting days.

Trying the Peppermint Hot Chocolate and I'm really enjoying it. Some sweet, some roast, and the barrel is there in the background. Mint-based stouts are polarizing so I'm not surprised at the critical reviews. Yes mint beers are going to have a toothpaste note, who would seek this out and be like "great beer if only it tasted less minty?"

If you love mint this will be enjoyable, the bonus is refreshing burps.

One person said that and my hot read on their palate would be that they associate any type of mint flavor with toothpaste. Baby palate for life.

Anyone try Threads yet? Is it on tap?

They added the note "brightly acidic" to the IG post that was interesting. Not too familiar with many stock ales so I'm curious how this plays here.

This is how I would describe some of my favorite coffee roasts. I think to a lot of folks, that would be flavor notes that are desirable in a strong dark beer. I’m sure some will immediately jump to them releasing an infected beer they held on to for almost three years. Why not just release it as a dark wild ale then?(just getting ahead of the curve here)
