But that’s just two people. The ratings (and they’re certainly not the be-all end-all) are a quick way to look at some stats at least.

And whether you personally care for Heady or Tree House, Hill Farmstead...etc. isn’t the point.

The point is, there’s a heck of a lot of people that do find those beers superior.

How do explain the higher ratings and success of breweries like Tilted Barn, Proclamation, NEBCO, and Fat Orange Cat?

They’re newer and are in CT and RI.

Portland wasn’t really a beer or even a food destination until maybe 5-8 years ago.

Before that I thought NH was a great state for beer. Who didn’t adore and respect places like Smutty and Portsmouth Brewery?

At least for me, Portland was an afterthought outside of Allagash.

Then NH fell behind, probably for many of the reasons you mentioned. And now it’s clearly on the upswing again. It’s not there yet, but it sure seems like the state will be right there again.

I made this stop last time I was in New London. Wasnt amazing, but did have a good variety of beer styles and I thought their kolsch was solid to very good if you like that style. still have a a vintage quad bottle to open too. from Sunapee to Henniker is an easy drive and worth it if you like things beyond IPAs IMO.

    have fun!!

Today, I found out Deciduous Brewing Company are prolific “likers” of Donald Trump tweets and re-tweets (otherwise they rarely tweet themselves). As someone who tries to be an informed consumer ... good to know.

In different news, a buddy of mine (from NY) got a care package from his wife: All Schilling beers. Dark lager, helles, hoppy stuff, etc.

Called the double ipa one of the best he’s ever had. Damn. I’m really missing out on them it seems.

    Where even is this place?!

Scenic Littleton, NH. Birthplace of yours truly. Sadly, I have not yet made the trip to Schilling either.

Some really good friends, co-workers, and I think even extended family voted for Trump.

I try not to let politics mix with anything in life, and that rule certainly applies to beer.

Thanks for this bit of info. Wasn't purchasing Deciduous to start with (a different reason), but this makes it even easier.

I"ve had 1 or 2 of the hoppy beers from Schilling's ale project (Resilient), and they're good but nothing stood out compared to the sea of hops in the region.

Alexander czech pils also is very good but not a stand out for me.

I do really want to check out their brewery though as it looks gorgeous in pictures.

They tweeted that the account was hacked. Who knows if that's true or not. I hope it was mild, petty revenge of someone who still had the login.

On the subject of the thread, Kettlehead just started some limited self-distributing, which is nice.

Schilling is one of the best NH breweries IMO. Lagers are nearly always spot on and the resilience side project cranks out some great ale styles.

Backyard brewery, spyglass, Kettlehead and from the Barrel have ranked very high in group blind IPA tastes I've done amongst all the heavy hitters from NE.

Breakaway Beerworks contract brews out great North and has some very very good beer.

Kelsen makes the best brown ale imo. Thier dark beers are fantastic. Their new sour branch has put out some surprisingly delicious stuff.

Great North is a great standby, Tye Dyed and moose juice are very Maine beer-esque to my palate and a couple of my go to beers.

Deciduous makes some good beer but nothing too unique coming out there in a long while. Liking Trump tweets doesn't move the needle for me other than knowing they don't know how to run a business social media account.

NH has more going on than people think. I like it like that. Less stretched out tee shirts to sift through to grab some top notch beer.

Does this somehow change the quality of their beer?

Tried Modest Man brewing in Keene NH. Brand new brewery in a great downtown spot. Beer was pretty impressive for a start up. Also recently went to Spyglass also very good. NH beer scene is really coming alive.

Of a brewery that's never really impressed me that much with it's beers? I guess not.

Their best beer is a Long Live collaboration. No surprise there.

@mrmattosgood well you did bring this on yourself. But good strategy to keep your article near the top of the NE forum page.
