There's actually three versions. Here's a run down of all the pieces: http://www.dresselbrew.com/Keg_Info.htm
order them from mcmaster, you get 100 of each type for really cheap Lid oring = 9452k218 post oring = 9452k23 dip tube oring = 9452k172
Thanks nathanjohnson for that detailed link. I guess I was not clear. I want to replace the o ring that is on the end poppet and pressure release valve. Do I just need to replace the poppets? I was hoping to just replace the o-rings right now. I will not be going to the LHBS anytime soon and would like to use these kegs in the meantime. Like tonight! edit: I am good on the lid, dip tube and gas posts orings. I am looking for the tiny ones on the end of the poppet and relief valve.
I have one keg that has the really old metal pressure relief. I did replace that with success. On the others you replace the pressure relief valve. For poppets you replace, in my experience..
Now that I look a bit closer those gaskets are integrated and do not look like you just replace them. Good news is that after a soak in oxyclean they do not look as skanky as before. Testing one to see if it holds pressure now...
the other two (post and diptube) come in a bag of 100, and end up being like 2-3ยข a piece, so literally thats hundreds for cheap
Well I have one that holds pressure. The others probably do also but someone needs more gas tube o-rings. Kegged a Golden Strong that had been in the secondary. Not too hot, but not too cold yet . I will be here all week, tip your waitress. Thanks for the info it will come in handy replacing these poppets and release valves.
I've never replaced an oring on the vent but I have replaced poppet o-rings. It's little tricky holding the spring away from the oring but I use some small needle nose pliers and then use a dental pick to remove the oring. Those little orings are cheap so it saves you quite a bit over the cost of buying new poppets just for the seal.
No, they are the all black, normal ones.. Lid, post orings, and gaskets for the dip and gas tube. Figure it's a half decent deal. I normally pick one up when I get a keg and replace anyways.
I remember when I bought my first keg. <Cue wavy dream sequence.> At the time I didn't know jack about them, and the LHBS was out of O-Ring kits, so I asked one of the employees what O-Rings I would need to change them all out. The answer... 1 Lid O-Ring 2 Post O-Rings 1 Dip Tube O-Ring Nothing like driving back to the LHBS for a single effing O-Ring. I had long since stopped asking them for brewing advice. Why I thought they would be better with kegs is beyond me. Nowadays I buy bulk from McMaster. But I still have an old blue-ringed kit in my parts box collecting dust just in case.
I've never seen the blue ones.. I'm a pretty shitty keg keeper-upper, so mine only get changed once a year. I'm rough and don't even use lube on them.
