Did the Urquell part touch your heart a little? I’m sorry to hate on a classic but every time I’ve had that beer it tastes like cardboard and creamed corn even in the fresh cans. Maybe with the exception of some of HF’s best lagers, the trillium Pilsner is as good if not better than those other beers. It might not be perfect but it’s a solid Pilsner from a brewery that doesn’t exactly specialize in lagers.

Don't backtrack bro-keep the rant going. Let me guess, the Trillium Pils is better than Notch beers as well? I am sure Fox Farm and Suarez lagers fall short as well. Oh and for the record, I was also pleasantly surprised by the Trill pilsner as well, but let's not equate a decent attempt at a Pilsner with a paragon of the style- also- please go say it it better than the HF lagers in the the HF forum- that should be interesting to watch.

I love how everyone keeps calling me bro. Bro much, bro? The “rant” has been over, now I’m just replying to people who feel the need to quote me. Gotta say I’m not a big fan of The Standard from Notch, I did like the old session pils though and the I Predict A Riot collab was one of my favorite lagers probably. I love House Lager and Post Shift from Jack’s too. For the record I haven’t had a Pilsner from Fox Farm or Suarez. I wasn’t trying to equate or compare the trill Pilsner to all of HF’s lagers, just the one Pilsner in cans I had which was Mary. I did enjoy Poetica #2 more than just about any other lager I have had, and Rhetorica was also really good. I might’ve had a Helles from them as well which I liked more than Central Artery, which at the time I thought I liked more than the Pilsner from trillium. I don’t mean to say Trillium Pilsner is “better” than Mary, just that I like it more which is a personal subjective opinion, obviously. It might hold up better to time though, in fact. You are all welcome to love Urquell and hate Trillium as you please, and praise HF as a god of craft beer.

Maybe I should have bolded the the wrong part to make it more clear, but I was referring to the statement that Trill’s pilsner is better than HF Mary and Poetica. That’s straight lunacy.

I never said it was better than Poetica, maybe just Mary, imo. Mary had that apple pear grape thing going that I didn’t love, but it’s something most people wouldn’t even notice, and that I don’t find as present in Trillium’s Pilsner, which is why I prefer it over Mary. More flavor, less light, and less fruity esters for my palate.

@StoutElk_92 im sorry but your relentless, breathless defense of any and every drop of liquid from Trillium should invalidate your reviews of these beers to anyone looking for an objective option. (So should the comparison to HF in any capacity)

I don't necessarily agree with @StoutElk_92 but I think you guys mised a very important line of his . . .

There may not be many that agree with him but this is his opinion just as it is your opinion that Trill's Pilsner is not the GOAT.

Chill guys, he is allowed to share his opinion and defend said opinion when someone @'s him on this site

Says the man with 8 beer ratings. There’s a reason why they are my favorite brewery and why I choose to stand up for them and speak the truth when others are misguided. I’ve been around the block and I’ve had my share from over 400 breweries and over 2000 beers. Trillium makes very good beer and that’s why I rate them high and they are my favorite. Their beer is also easily accessible to me. If I had easy access to HF or another good brewery I would probably drink all their beers and rate them highly as well, but Trillium is my local go to and their beer is always great, decent at the least, and never as bad as the people on here make it sound. It’s you people here that are relentless in your hate for the brewery.

People on here talking about repurposed stouts, infected releases, bad beers, being lied to without proof, gtfo... The fact that some people who don’t get to try all their beers have to question if a release is good or not because of the lies and idiocy isn’t right. But hey, more for me I guess. I don’t always like coming on here and saying what I say, but I feel someone has to set the record straight.

If you haven't cracked a can of pure dogshit IPA from Trillium than you're incredibly lucky. I still buy their beer on occasion, but I always try before I buy now. Because, their beer is inconsistent. There was a stretch right after that fermentation debacle where their IPAS were complete garbage. That's not me being picky, or just wanting to hate on the brewery. It doesn't feel good dumping a 6 dollar can of beer. I would much rather enjoy it. I would LOVE if Trillium tasted the same as it did back its fort point bomber days because it's the most convenient brewery for me, but it's just not the case. The beer has changed, most of the original supporters of the brewery have moved on and it doesnt' matter because an absolute horde of new fans have moved in.

Trillium was once upon a time my absolute favorite IPA brewer, that is no longer the case. I've been burned one too many times, buying a 4 pack of something and getting an IPA that tastes like peanut butter, or dusty hop residue. When some 4 packs are pushing 25 bucks there should be 0 doubt. It seems they've figured some things out, and have recently enjoyed melcher st again(which to me seemed to suffer the worst in the brewery's evolution) but every time I get a draft, or crack open a can I wonder if it's going to be a good batch or not.

I don't ask that question for practically any other brewery.

And maybe their stouts are still good, I don't know...I don't really go after the dessert stouts.

I can agree the IPAs aren’t as good as they used to be. I was merely complaining about the recent stuff thrown at them in the last couple pages of this thread, not the whole IPA debacle. Someone said Threads was infected, someone questioning if Peppermint Hot Chocolate is good, a review saying it’s no secret they use concentrated flavorings, some fool lying online about their stouts being the same beers, etc. I’ve been drinking Trillium since at least early 2016, maybe late 2015, so I’ve witnessed the evolution firsthand. They are still my favorite. Hops are a natural ingredient that can be hard to control. It sucks that it seems like they used to master it and now the hoppy beers aren’t as good, but I still like them, though admittedly buy more stouts and sours and other beers than IPAs from them and just about any brewery now. Every brewery has an IPA if you want it, but not everyone here makes awesome fruity sours and pastry stouts as well. I like Lamplighter IPAs and some others from stores, like Lone Pine, TG, but in most cases I would still mix a pack up of some Trillium singles from the brewery than buy a 4pk from a different brewery at a store.

Going after my stats? Ha. Nice. Ive been around the block too bub, and used to drink Trillium almost exclusively for ipas back in the Congress st days. Those beers were magical. All of them.

They’re not anymore and all I’m saying is, to other folks reading your hyperbolic reviews, to take what you say with some serious salt. You’re obviously not an objective reviewer

Conversations like these are why BeerAdvocate gets a bad rep at times. Chill, people.

What are some convenient Boston area IPAs that you all consider best? Always looking for new things.

So they recently posted that they started year 4 of coolship beers.

Off the top of my head the only beer I remember being advertised as coming out of the coolship was Stroka, which I was a huge fan of. Are all their sour beers from the coolship (fated farmer series, stonington, soaks, lineage, etc)?

I don't find Treehouse to be "convenient" or "Boston", which are two things he mentioned. I love their beers and all but knowing that Trillium is way closer and that I can walk in and out means that I will usually choose them over Treehouse. But I don't go to Trillium as much as I used to either.

My reviews are objective and my ratings are subjective like everyone else’s. There is no hyperbole in them.

I believe the spontaneously fermented coolship beers are still coming in the future.

Seconded. I live _in_ Boston, and love Tree House, but 1.5 hours driving each way is not convenient. Lamplighter is always a fun visit. But yeah, Trillium's quality and convenience factor into why I keep coming back to them.

You have rated hundreds of trillium beers and not a single one has less than a 4.5. Most are 4.7 or above. Hyperbole fanboy reviews.

Also if you don't like the Standard you don't like pilsners.
