Perhaps the most beautiful -- and the best -- craft brewery in the United States.

I'd have to disagree on both points (I go to school in Madison and have visited the brewery a couple times) - it doesn't beat the big ones like founders, FFF, the bruery etc in consistency or the strength of individual offerings, but it is definitely quality and has some great stuff. i have a deep love for moon man, enigma, apple ale, raspberry tart, belgian red, serendipity, and yes... spotted cow

I think he was talking about the brewery itself, not the beers.

Nice p-47 pic there beertunes ! Regarding the discussion subject, had New Glarus some time ago while in Wisconsin, no complaints. I have not seen it in NW Indiana though where FFF is KING !

It beats FFF by dating and pricing, Bruery.... well the fact that people pay the price they set still blows me away. I have nothing negative to say about Founders. I love both NG and Founders.

I agree about all of those aspects, but I just don't think the brews (overall) stack up to either of those breweries. I agree they could fix those issues but I definitely like zombie dust, dreadnaught, breakfast stout, backwoods bastard, and saison rue better than anything by new glarus. just my humble opinion and i still definitely have a lot of love for ng

Was talking about both. Dan Carey seems to me to be one of the most knowledgeable brewers out there. Their lagers, with the exception perhaps of the Oktoberfest, are almost certainly the best being brewed in the U.S. (matched only by Olde Mecklenburg in Charlotte). Have yet to try many of their experimental and/or fruit beers, but from everything I've had so far, I expect nothing but top-quality. Their prices and freshness are without equal for the quality, and they have managed to achieve what very few other U.S. craft brewers have, regionally or nationally: brand loyalty.

I've had several of their beers and nothing stood out except Black Top. Staghorn was OK. I hear that Lakefront is the brewery to go to in Wisc.

I find most of their beers (especially the German recipes) to generally be outstanding examples of the style.

Also, the brewery is cool and the town is fun. Big New Glarus fan here.

Lakefront has the best tour for sure (i.e most entertaining), but their brewery is pretty boring IMO. It's pretty much just a warehouse with brewing / bottling equipment in it.

The New Glarus Hilltop Brewery is an absolute thing of beauty. The intersection of form and function, and it fits in perfectly in its surroundings. The basic tour is pretty much self-guided, but if you know what you're looking at, the lack of a host is not a problem. I haven't done their hard-hat tour, but I hear it is world-class.

As for New Glarus' beers, almost all of them, with a few exceptions, are excellent examples of their respective styles. They might make a beer that you don't like, but that generally means (again, with a few minor exceptions) that you don't like that style of beer.
