Yes it is more expensive. I am able to get it for $7.99 a bottle. And many stores here who won't sell BCBS in 4packs and limit you to 1 bottle are charging anywhere from $6-$8 per bottle so MEphistopheles is in the ballpark. Regardless of price, if you love BCBS you have to try Mephistopheles, even if it's just once.

I've had my share of bad BCBS before they were ruthlessly taken over...bottles that tasted like teriyaki sauce.
Hopefully there is now a reasonable expectation that QC has improved...?

Well, a half liter runs $45 here, so actually cheaper than there. I was saying two half-liters, or a full liter, would run about $90.

For me, nothing quite measures up to the BCBS. I've supported Goose since I was old enough to drink, and I seriously doubt that AB fired everyone working at GI when they took over (any word on this?). I dislike AB's business practices, and I don't buy nearly as much Goose as I used to, but as long as it's great beer I'll buy a Matilda, Honkers, Pere Jacques, or BCBS now and again. There are lines that I draw firmly and some that aren't so firm. I try not to shop at Walmart, Lowe's, Menards, etc; I won't pay 320 bucks for a jacket made in an Indian sweatshop; I don't eat at McDonald's or Burger King because of the terrible feed lots that the beef comes from. BCBS is a bit more negotiable for me.

I wish it was not expensive or I would drink this more too!

I'll be replacing the BCBS that was a pain in the ass to find last year with BCBS which was much, much easier for me to get ahold of this year.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken here but Goose Island was not a publicly traded company and thus not subject to or in danger of hostile takeover. ABI didn't swallow them up against their will. They willingly sold the company to the larger conglomerate. Kind of takes the 'evil' out of the equation IMO.

I recommend this technique to blend Tap 357 maple bourbon into Founder's Breakfast Stout to simulate KBS.

I'll be replacing your Bourbon County with my Bourbon County. Thanks for the extra supply. I can understand not wanting to support the evil empire, but I doubt my $22 4-pack once a year will do much to line their coffers.

Where do you shop that there are "tons" of other barrel aged stouts on the shelves?

I tried a side by side of BCS and Against the Grain/de Molen Bo and Luke, and thought that Bo and Luke was superior, much more complex. That being said I think that BCS is excellent, and I will continue to go to the Clybourn location, as it wasn't included in the AB sale anyway

If GI keep loosing key people...Laffler giving notice yesterday, there will be a change... There are lot's of former GI folks brewing elsewhere in Chicago and some even starting new breweries... I'd just sit back and watch this play out.

The best way to support the old Goose Island is to support all the breweries that former GI brewers have transferred to. Most of the serious "craft" employees have moved on to new opportunities (since they no longer work at a "craft" brewery).

Laffler's announcement yesterday is a perfect example.

I'm just fine with lots of people quitting BCBS because GI was bought by ABInBev. More BCBS for me!

John's Grocery in Iowa City. Plenty of breweries are doing barrel aged stouts and if bourbon county goes down the shitter for some reason, 5 other breweries will be eager to take the shelf space. Hopefully they will keep up the quality and really get this one back on the shelves pretty much year round like it used to be.

When I can no longer get BCBS it will be replaced by sadness and longing. Then I'll go buy more beer to replace that.
