List updated with Strawberry and Honey Jackets. Look for me on Friday - I'll be the short guy in glasses in the taproom at 4pm with a HUGE smile on my face

 

If I get too shitlord with the Dumb All Over then my presence will also likely add nothing of value to surrounding parties.

Enough about me, though, are we lining up yet?

 

@BeerCruncher Were you guys able to do those tasting videos again? I'd really like to hear what these taste like and the process for them because they're so unique. Thanks!

 

I thought they posted some of those in the FB event page. I didn't watch them to know for sure though. If you have FB - I would go check that out.

 

Would love to hear reviews from the preview parties tonight. I got my wisdom teeth out recently and wouldn't be able to attend the actual release tomorrow to try them. Not sure I want to drop the money on full four packs of each either.

 

I don't have the facebooks anymore but don't see them on the event page. But may have to log in to view them.

 

If I remember to post in between crying tears of joy that Picard is back "on TV" I'll try to put something here.

 

Don't Drink Beer says Cuvee is a bit too sweet but 10 Year Beer is just right.

I'm maxing out regardless.

How did you get the guys from Duck Dynasty to review Cuvee?

 

Haven't seen Josh Noel's review yet--he didn't succeed in annoying Rev too, has he?

 

Craig G @ abvchicago claims Cuvee comes off heavy licorice and anise. I know some people love licorice, but I'm not that guy. 1 4-pack for me if that's the case. X Year Beer sounds delightful, "This is VSOJ with cherries."

I don't necessarily love his "Rankings" of the Deep Woods releases, as I loved both VSOD and Boss Jacket. VSOR & Cafe Deth certainly were stellar and I'd probably be battling with the 4 if ranking them myself. Have to remember it's just one guy's opinion and that's ok...

Here's Craig's take on the series:

10 – Deth By Plums. Didn’t really like how the fruit played with the stout.

9 – V.S.O.D. A bit thin and not as fudgy as before, but lovely raisin notes.

8 – Straight Jacket. Dry finish and really boozy; started with tons of caramel and butterscotch on the palate.

7 – Cuvée de Grace. Licorice, anise and a dry finish. Not for everyone, but good enough.

6 – Boss Jacket. Sweet with tons of caramel and butterscotch. Dry finish keeps it from being too boozy.

5 – Deth’s Tar. Arguably the best vintage of Deth’s Tar.

4 – Ten Year Beer. Sweet cherry juice, but enough of the base V.S.O.J. to round it off and make it delicious.

3 – Ryeway to Heaven. Tons of rye and a syrupy thick mouthfeel. Up there with the 2017 vintage.

2 – V.S.O.R. A bigger, better Ryeway. Will age nicely.

1 – Café Deth. A superior barrel-aged coffee stout, but only while it’s fresh. DRINK FRESH.

I mean, sort of?

That's not how this works....

Here are my takeaways:

1) I was anticipating Cuvee over 10 Year

2) I don't like cherries.

3) Cuvee is good but 10 Year fucking rules. Cuvee has a lot of that "old stout" taste I like, and is kinda sweet (I don't think TOO sweet, but I only had a small pour). 10 Year has a really well-integrated cherry flavor; it's sweet, a little tart, and some barrel. I'm a fan.

Wish I could've stayed for more!

 

Had both Revolution pours at Ravenswood preview party. The Barleywine was solid, though I am passing on the four pack tomorrow. Unless you are a huge Barleywine person, I’d pass on the four pack. The Cuvée is on point, will purchase tomorrow along with the variants. Heading back for more Alpha Naught and Alpha Kong at Village Tap before heading home.
