I managed to get two bottles of Bolt Cutter. I am planning on having one this winter, but was wondering if there is a consensus on when to try it again. 1 year? 2 years? 4 years?

    Thoughts?

I'm thinking between 2 and 15... seriously! I don't think that properly cellared BW's change "THAT" much in just a year. I call BS on anyone that claims to taste changes over a few month period! I hated DFH Hellhound on My Ale fresh... but I opened the first release a few months after the 2nd batch was released... and it was an entirely different experience! Bolt is gonna develop and grow sweeter, slower... I say five too ten with the bite that it has now... Hey... just MHO!

Just to be contradictory, anything dry hopped is going to be different in a few months, no mater what style it is.

I only have one bottle. I'm going to cellar it for a month. :stuck_out_tongue: Merry Christmas to me!

I also got 2 bottles unfortunatley. I thought this beer sucked fresh. I had it last night and I still can't get the sryupy coating off my lips.
The other one is going to the bottom of my celler to be forgotten about.
This might be the wost beer I ever tried from Founders who normally nails it.
An the price tag? Ridiculous! This better turn into something good down the road.:astonished:

I think this beer will definitely be better with age. Incredibly hop forward at this point. It was a completely unexpected punch in the groin.

I've got an extra that I'm going to sit on for at least a year, probably 2. I just hope the maple and hop characteristics don't die off at the exact same time...

    Founders can do better.
Have 3 bottles, had on draft Black Friday.
Going to drink one next Wednesday since it's my birthday.
Going to expect best drinking 3+ years from now.
If it isn't awesome then, it's not going to be imo.

I bought 4 bottles, because I'm a ***** for stuff Founders puts in barrels. Reviews not looking good to me. I'll hopefully get to try it on draft sometime soon and then I'll decide what to do. May just forget about all four of them for a couple years and then see what happens... Or, I might taste it on draft and decide it's awesome. At least two of my bottles will take a good long nap, I guarantee that.

I just got one bottle and based on the reviews, it is going in the cellar back home, and I'll forget about it while I'm off to law school, and four years later when I'm back home, I will have quite the pleasant surprise (I hope.)

How are the reviews not looking good? It's rated a 91/exceptional with an rAvg of 4.13 here right now.

    Taste/decide for yourself.

Backstage releases from Founders end up hyped too much & too much of a pain in the ass for many to acquire.
Probably lends to the some hate from people on the boards.

I've had it a lot and think it is a damn fine brew. I agree that their limited releases cause a lot of butthurt on these boards.

I've heard that it's both very hoppy and very sweet, I would imagine that both would mellow out over time. I'm going to open the first of my several bottles this evening, to celebrate the anniversary of the world being blessed with my arrival.

It's my birthday as well, and while I was going to open a Bolt Cutter, I've decided to have a '11 Mephistopheles instead since it's the '12 release of said brew this evening at the Avery taproom
