yeah we were thinking we’d go by Kings court after but could literally not fit another ounce of food or drink after that.

I hear that Torch & Crown is aiming to have their Manhattan taproom open by the end of March. Should be interesting to see how that goes.

OK, turns out Ministry of Brewing will actually be opening tomorrow (January 31).

Also, City-State Brewing is supposed to be opening in DC this summer.

BriteSmith in Williamsville (Buffalo suburb) slated to open in a few weeks.

Place is big, gonna have wood-fired pizzas and some other food.

Beer, at least to start, looking very 90s brewpub. West coast IPA, nitro stout, pils, and wheat beer but also a sour (no specification) and a NEIPA.

It's actually gonna be on the same drag (and almost across the street) as Moor Pat and not far down the road from Charlie the Butcher. So I think they're gonna do very well and probably be extremely busy unless the beer is awful.

This is likely not the best thread to pose my question but, I don't want to start an entirely new thread.
I'm heading to Hunter Mountain in a couple weeks. Are there any decent beer joints in the vicinity?

Just one -- West Kill -- but fortunately for you they're one of upstate NY's best kept secrets. Fucking terrific stuff and in a beautiful setting.

Unfortunately for you, since you have to go around the woods, it's like a 30-minute drive. If you could drive there from the base of the lifts (you cannot) it would be like three miles.

It's mentioned in other threads, but I'll put it here too...Odd Bird in Stockton, NJ opens today. Cask Bitter is one of their first beers. Looks promising.

Do you have an update on Artillery Brewing Company? They had a booth at the Chadds Ford Pumpkin Carve in October 2019 and then a few days later it said on their website, they had to leave their farm location and find an all weather site. Their porter was fire, I hope they can make it again.

Rebecca, I know the owner of the farm where Artillery Brewing was located. I don't know the exact circumstances for termination of their business relationship between the farm owner and the brewers, but the brewing system was totally undersized for day-to-day pubically accessible brewpub. Not surprisingly, they couldn't keep up with the demand, plus special occassions when the farm hosted private weekend events for wedding receptions and family/group reunions. I don't know what happen to the brewers, but I believe the brewing equipment is still on the premises. The owner is still interested in having craft beer available at his facility. A better crafted business plan between the brewer and owner was needed to have any chance for success.

Hit two very new spots over the weekend.

Two Villains in Nyack: Gorgeous, gorgeous space right downtown. Awesome array of beers -- had a NEIPA, NEDIPA, cream ale (!), kolsch (!!), grisette (!!!), milk stout, maple milk stout and maybe one thing I'm forgetting. All the beers were great. Anyone going to District 96, Captain Lawrence or Rockland Bakery absolutely needs to make this a stop too.

Svendale in Brooklyn: It's a closet. A literal closet. Absolutely the smallest taproom I've ever been in; it could seat no more than 15-20 comfortably and at that point 'comfortably' would be a stretch.

That said -- the beer is great. Absolutely killer guava sumac sour there and a very nice BBA barleywine. Like Two Villains, lot of variance on the taplist and worth a stop if you're in the Folksbier/OH neighborhood as its easy walking distance to both.

Don't have any inside info, but @rotsaruch is right about the situation at the farm. Lots of problems meeting demand. At last update, the brewer was looking for a standalone location for a brewpub. No word on whether it would be connected to Thornberry Farm or supply them at all. Worth noting that the Artillery brewery license is in safekeeping, registered to the farm's owner (not the brewer).

Bleh I was in Rockland over the weekend. I completely forgot Two Villains opened after I moved.

As others said, West Kill is pretty good. I had some on tap at dinner and found super fresh cans at a gas station (both places on Rte 23 in Windham). Had an IPA and APA.

This is encroaching into New England territory here but there's enough overlap w/ NY being so close that it's relevant:

Kismet Brewing in Westfield just had their soft opening last weekend.

In actual NY news, Brewery Z in Moreau (Saratoga area) got town/zoning board approval to move forward for their farm brewery and they're gonna try to be open by mid-summer.

Thanks for this information. I guess the brewers will have a new name if they open a brewpub. Will the recipe for the beer stay with the brewers or the farm owner?

That depends on any agreement between the owner and brewer. One certainly hopes that they'd have some written agreement addressing things such as that.

New place in the works for New Lebanon, NY. Roaring 20s is gonna be in a huge, gorgeous old house dating back to the 1870s that used to be a school and some other things. Not sure what kind of styles they'll specialize in but they don't look super far off from opening.

Capital Region-area people will be able to do a nice loop with Suarez, Roaring 20s and Roe Jan over the summer.

Do you have much insight into the business plans of the small, local breweries that have recently opened up? Based upon my observations and limited conversations it sure seems that these new small businesses are very loosey-goosey.

    Cheers!

There's certainly a lot of informed speculating that could be done, but none of it would be based on any concrete knowledge of these businesses or their business plans/agreements. So wouldn't be appropriate (at least not in this forum).
