Security is going to be extra tight at DLD this year with the attendance of Indiana native, President Mike Pence....

Amon Amarth is Europe before and after DLD. I doubt they play again.
Pig Destroyer has no tour info.
Powertrip is playing in Ohio the day before. Possible after cancelling last year.

There's like a 2 month gap for Amon Amarth over DLD...I'm optimistic especially given the collaboration beer. I've also crossed my fingers and asked Odin "Pretty please?!?"

I was hoping they'd try to play this year. I'd say that makes this a good chance!

Knowing that they have already collaborated with them on a beer, I think it’s time they brought Mastodon for Dark Lord Day.

They finish a festival in Florida on 5/10... Possible!

Mastodon played a show in Chicago ON DARK LORD DAY the same year they released the collab and didn’t so much as make an appearance at DLD. They might be too big to play it now.

True but playing two shows the same day is likely not something they would want to do. I do think they are likely too big to play DLD and were also too big that year they were in Chicago on DLD a few years back.

I'm just going to assume that if I've heard of a band, they're too big to play at DLD. I've heard of Mastodon.

Honestly thought of posting this myself. Every time the "man it'd be cool if Band X played DLD!" posts come around, in my head I'm always like "lol, some random band no one has ever heard of," and then half this thread responds with "oh dude, that'd be the shit! I love Band X."

Like you, I've heard of Mastodon (even before I got into this community!), which means that might as well be The Beatles at this point.

I don't know that I agree with that logic anymore. Amon Amarth is a pretty big band. High on Fire is a Grammy award winning band and they played... I'm still hoping Cannibal Corpse might play... Just because they're 'big' in the metal world doesn't mean they're a 'big' band... Ok, maybe Lamb of God, Metallica, Anthrax are a bit lofty...

The logic still works very well for me - no idea who any of those bands are, except for Metallica and Anthrax. Just because you win a Grammy doesn't mean you're well known (and that's not to take anything away from them winning a Grammy...just saying that lots of artists win a Grammy that the general public isn't aware of).

In an effort to boost interest in heavy metal, FFF will no longer offer times for bottle pick-up groups, but will instead assign you a band for a pick up window. For example if you are assigned the band Zombie Goulash your pick-up window starts during their first song and the window ends at the end of their set.

And if you cant sing along to the song currently playing, you get two vintage dark lords. Its time the music took over this festival.

Dark Lord Day is transitioning to a more family friendly festival and will be headlined by Dinosaurs in Love....
