No, from what I always learned in grade school (education was so damn corporate when I was a kid ) the original ESSO, one of the many Rockefeller's Standard Oil spin-offs and one of the "Seven Sisters", was Standard Oil of New Jersey, the initials standing for Eastern Seaboard Standard Oil. Later, Exxon, of course. The company which wanted to put a tiger in your tank*

As for Sinclair being defunct - yeah, I was probably thinking of it's mascot, Dino, whose species is extinct.

* Not to be confused with having a Tiger by the Tail. (Hey, Buck - that's your cue!)

ah, of course you are correct, the esso of esso was standard oil not sinclair oil. Although I was always told that the 'esso' was just the verbalized initials, S.O.

Of course, the real question here is, do either of these places have gas that really burns like gas? or is it all that new fangeled adjunct gas that's more corn than anything else?
