Late 80’s and I was out in my Grandfather’s shop after he and my Father returned from hunting. They were sitting down to clean the guns and gave me a sip of Budweiser.

I‘ll never forget how it tasted in that musty old shop that smelled of spent gunpowder, cleaning solvents, and oil. I didn’t like the beer, and didn’t understand the jokes...but it felt great to be “one of the big guys” and I knew someday I would grow to enjoy it.

You are correct! Fall's City did brew Billy Beer, and I am sure Billy beer was as appalling as Fall's City beer, but when you are ten yours old, you will try anything.

Split two 40s with a friend. Colt 45 and Crazy Horse Malt Liquor. Then we thought it would be smart to make strawberry quick after, yeah I threw up.

If only the camaraderie and not the beer, eh?

We had Schlitz at our local bar, but not a family choice. Can't say I ever tried it. Cheers!

My dad didn’t really drink beer. We only ever had it in the fridge on rare big family gatherings. I remember asking for a sip from someone at one of these, and I remember it being a Labatt Blue. I also remember liking it. I was probably 10 or so.

The first one I bought myself as a 16 year old with a fake ID was a a six pack of O’Keefe Extra Old Stock. My only reason for buying it was the higher ABV of 6.2%. versus the common 5%. It ended up being my go to beer for the first few years of drinking until I was 19 or so.

So, is it still a favorite?

MGD from a can. There was a football game on. I remember sitting in my godmother's lap and I was her designated "cup holder" between puffs of Marlboro light cigarettes and yelling in my ear about "throw the damned ball!" snuck a sip a few times. Had to be all of 4 or 5 years old. lol

I haven’t had it for maybe 25 years or so. I probably would like though, as I’ve begun re-developing a taste for macro beer in the last year or two. I don’t think it’s been brewed for about 5 years or more now though.

Like the OP, I'm thinking my dad probably gave me a taste of Carling Black Label or perhaps Blatz. He wasn't a big beer drinker, but those are the beers I recall seeing in the downstairs refrigerator more often than not back in Rust Belt north central Ohio...probably circa mid- to late-60s...

Now, while Rainier was my first beer, Carling Black Label is easily the beer I bootlegged the most in HS. 12 packs were like $3.50, easy cash for a couple highschoolers to get together.

IDK, but by the time I was drinking, there was a good reason for Black Label to be cheap... I will say, though, I loved the variety of their cork-lined caps in my cap collection...

I still wish I could find more of those older generation beers. I know some are still brewed (and most likely with different recipes than 'back in the day').

There are a couple of BAs I've beer traded with specifically to get some of the new Strohs (such as @superspak and, I believe, @cryptichead)...

Wow, this was mine too! I couldn't have been more than 10 or 11 years old. I was at a party at my dad's friend's house and there was a can of MGD sitting out. I can't remember if there was a reason why I drank it or I was just curious but I took a swig. Funny thing is I didn't hate it. I didn't love it either. But to this day I remember very vividly what it tasted like.

I remember Strohs as not bad, but the legend grew that you paid for drinking it sitting on the throne the next day...

One nice thing is PBR still tastes the same as it did back then, at least to me...

It was most likely a Genesee beer, but might have been Cream Ale. My father had a couple friends who worked at the brewery, so there were always cases of 7oz bottles around. At get-togethers us kids would get to split a bottle between a few of us. I was about 5 the first time I remember drinking, although I'm sure I'd had some before that.
