Wow, that's neat in a "get the kids used to it" sort of way... I had an uncle that worked at Falstaff Ft Wayne, which probably started that half of the family on it, but I never thought it had much of a taste. Genesee was in our area, but none of the family were into it. I did watch my nephew get me a few twist off caps at the local grocery...

I can remember as a kid my dad letting me have sips of his PBR or Budweiser. When I was maybe 11 or 12, my uncle offered me a full can of Michelob. My dad said it was ok and I drank the whole thing. Kept the empty can on a shelf in my bedroom for years.

Another cool memory! We only ever got away with sips...

I remember Coors being the one everyone wanted after Smokey and the Bandit...

Hell, I grew up in Wisconsin. I tried a sip of my father's beer when I was probably about 8 or so, and it was probably a PBR, but could have been a Schmidt, Miller, Hamm's, Grain Belt, etc. I recall a party at my aunt and uncle's house where my two year old cousin was wandering around grabbing "empty" beers and draining the cans. When he started diving off the couch they realized what was up.

I was 12 when I had my first whole beers.

My sister had a nephew by marriage that celebrated his aunt's wedding at 2 y-o by sneaking a bottle of champagne... we got him drunk at 6y sipping the mixed drinks we were ever so slyly making...

Now that I think about it, I don't know if I've ever had an MGD since then. I'm tempted to go buy a single now just to give it a whirl.

Reingold chug a mug. Wish someone other than Mickey’s had that bottle. When ice cold you could put a bottle down in 1-2 gulps, you basically poured it down your neck.

Did a few of those Mickeys... unfortunately, about half were skunky...

I know I've said this before somewhere, but what the hell. When I was little I use to visit my grandparents in Florida every summer for a couple of weeks. I was probably 5 the first time my grandfather gave me a Schlitz. We start sitting on his dock and move our chairs back every hour or so, probably to keep him out of the sun for too long. Every time he moved his chair he would get himself a couple more beers, and maybe 1 for me. I recognize this was neither stellar surrogate parenting, nor stellar beer, but I love that old man and miss him everyday, and I would kill for one of those Schlitz right now.

You say that like there's something wrong with Mickeys. Those are my high school years right there.

My folks have a photo of me taking a sip of my grandpa's beer at around 2 years old. Sadly enough, I don't remember what it was . But, since my mom/maternal grandparents lived in Louisville, it's a good guess that that beer was either a Fall's City or Hudepohl.

They weren't skunky. That's just how Mickey's tastes. And there is nothing wrong with that.

I think it was Hamms...I would mow my Grandfather's lawn in the summer, starting when I was probably 12 or so. We lived two houses apart, so we were very close, for family and distance . On a particularly hot day, after I finished, he came out and said two things...

    "Don't tell your Dad"
"It's time to learn a lesson...you might as well be drunk as the way you are."
And he handed me a beer, again I think it was Hamms as that was what my Dad and Grandpa drank at the time. I will never forget that

Edit: I'm sure I stole a sip or two when I was younger than that but obviously can't remember...

I grew up in a town that has a popular ocean beach named Jones Beach, so all of us friends got our working papers at 14, and had guaranteed summer jobs every summer at the beach. They served Bud and Schaefer and that was it, no other beers. My first beer was a Schaefer, in a wax paper glass, hiding in a walk in with friends that first summer. Uggggh, yucchhh. I never developed a taste for Schaefer. Second beer was much better, Budweiser. Mmmmmm. Even though I haven't had a Bud in many many years, that second beer, a Budweiser, put me on the way to a life of beer enjoyment.

The first one I actually remember was a watered down Rheingold at Shea Stadium watching Seaver, Kranepool and the rest at about 8 or 9 years old. This time my dad was offering the sips. And, yes, even at that age I could tell it was diluted :sunglasses:.

I remember my first beer experience. I lived with my grandparents and my grandpa drank Hamms. One hot Summer day, Grandpa fell asleep in his chair. I took the opportunity and took a big swig of hot Hamms. I spit the beer out so fast, it scared me. I thought I woke up Grandpa. I took off in search of something to get that taste out of mouth.
