Also off topic, but I prefer Leroy Brown (RIP) from OB and Telluride Brown over Burnt Toast.

Recently nabbed the Biere de Garde from Cellar West, and I really enjoyed it. I love the complexity of a dark BDG. It was aged in recently used red wine barrels and has a red wine and oak notes to go with dark malts. Beautiful. Reminded me a little of Casey's BDG, which I've always thought was one of their best beers.

By the way, if you love oak-aged beer, Cellar West is a MUST to check out. They are absolutely killing it right now and IMO should be mentioned with the best breweries in the state. Their saisons have medaled in the top 2 at GABF both years that they've been open/submitted beer.

Also, looking forward to trying the foedre-aged schwarzbier from Cerebral. Shikes wrote about it here: https://www.westword.com/restaurant...yle-beers-you-should-drink-right-now-11549101

The 1L winter bock sounds like lights out. Westworld is full of drunks.

Not a CO Beer, but I had an Oak Aged Helles (?!?!?) from Green Cheek at TRVE a couple weeks ago. It didn't taste anything like a helles...and they probably could have just used a cheaper/quicker blonde ale base, but man was it good.
I really do wish normal ol' oak chips would get more use.

Just picked up Telluride’s Batch 1000 and thought it was great; it’s a barrel aged Barleywine. According to a post it was aged in Dickel, Woodford Rye and Woodford Double oak barrels. At $9.99 a 4pk it’s a steal.

Where did you pick this Telluride up? I'm in CO and would love to have this.

Finally got around to trying Odell's 180 Schilling tonight. That was a pretty nice one.

After a couple weeks of me stalking the shelves in search of White Oak Jai Alai, Cigar City just confirmed on its Instagram that White Oak won't make an appearance until April

So keep the CO oak-aged suggestions coming! I know there aren't that many options but I appreciate all the great recs so far.

    UGH. That sucks.

Rumble is missing from Great Divide's 2020 calendar. After a rebound, those guys seem to have lost their way again. I fully expect them to launch a low calorie IPA any day. Their business plan seems to involve copying what is/was cool about 6 months after everyone has already made one.

Just tried "Not Throwin' Away My Shot," an amber ale aged on oak spirals from Empourium Brewing on Tennyson. I found it because Shikes wrote about it as one of the best 30 "new" beers that he tried in 2019. I found it to be solid. I usually find amber ales a little boring, but this one had really nice chocolate and vanilla notes, probably aided by the oak. Worth trying if you find yourself in that stretch of breweries on Tennyson north of 38th St.

I tasted a beer from New Image called "Wood" a few years back, but I think at that time it was labelled a "wheat wine" and was aged in bourbon barrels. I loved it, and I've heard great things about the rest of their "Wood" series. The Westword had great things to say about a new variant in the "Wood" series:

"But the palate-positive flavors in New Image's newest barleywine, Wood Spanish Cedar, show that the brewery isn't slowing down in 2020. The latest in New Image's Wood series used Spanish cedar to truly wake up the senses, blending the heady cedar aromas with the vanilla-like sweetness of the barleywine. The brewery describes the flavors as if you were eating a wooden gingerbread man with grapefruit zest buttons."

Station 26 just rolled out a new IPA aged on oak spirals and featuring lotus hops. Lotus hops apparently throw off lots of orange notes, so I'm pumped to give this a try later.

Yup. At least not counting draft accounts that also might potentially get it.
I tried it on Friday and was a big fan. I don't think it's as oak-heavy as Rumble or W.O. Jai Alai, but it's in the ballpark. The base IPA is a hair more new school than both of those, too.

Speaking of Rumble. . . . This probably doesn't belong here, but favorite "hoppy" barleywines available here?

I think I enjoy Rumble a lot because it reminds me of a very American version of barleywine, which is much more to my tastes. I know there is Bigfoot, but would love to here everyone else's thoughts.

I like both the English and American ones. Feels like American-style BW's are dwindling a bit.
On the American side of things, Release the Hounds from the B&B is really good. Pimp My Rye can be, although this last bottled version doesn't really capture how good it has been on draft. Supposedly there are some more variations incoming.
I enjoy Epic's, too. Rogue's used to be one I looked forward to, but it's pretty rough around the edges. It needs time to avoid tasting like rocket fuel, but it's pretty solid after 9 months or so.

I forgot about that one. Crazy Mountain might be managed by a bunch of wahoos, but that beer is elite.
