One of the best beers to come out of that brewery as of late.

Maybe they will wise up and start offering that in all samplers instead of xtra

This is only available in the Thaw Pack if you don't find it on-tap? I guess I can choke down 3 Ctra to get to it.

By clicking this thread I didn't expect this to be about a beer

Okay, I'll probably have to pick up a sampler pack.

Had 1 of each over the last 3 days, Loved the Scrillionaire and Fall to Pieces. The surprise to me was Furious had not had a can in awhile and would not remotely have recognized it had someone blindly poured me a glass of it. Xtra Citra was not bad at all.

So you're saying "Fall To Pieces" is "Phenomenal" - okay, got it.

I would have to agree about the Furious. The cans I had out of the Thaw pack had much more hop resin/dankness going on, and less maltiness than I remember from cans I’ve had prior. I enjoyed them a lot more actually.

I completely agree about the Furious. This Thaw Pack is really quite good. The Scrillionaire is a nice surprise, I didn't expect to like that one. Now if they could replace the Xtra Citra with a nice hazy... :stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue:

While Xtra isn't as bad as I remember, I completely agree. Put anything else in there, even hell. Unfortunately, I think their sales say our opinions aren't in the majority.

Oh, hell yeah, I'd go for some Hell in that pack. Hell is year-round, I could see them doing that. Any day out of the year, if I open a fridge or cooler at a party and see Xtra and Hell I'm picking Hell every time.
    Hell.

I like Xtra-Citra a lot. It has gotten much better since its original release and has become a tasty, highly drinkable beer. That said, I don't know why it has to be in all of these, especially with the more popular and even better Furious satisfying a similar itch.

What about bringing back Bender in its place for, say, the fall pack (seems seasonally appropriate)? I think that could bring some publicity and nostalgic sales, along with encouraging some newer Surly drinkers to appreciate the beer that, along with Furious, first put Surly on the map.

I've always assumed they put Xtra in all of their variety packs because it's cheaper to make than Furious.

Xtra isn't that much cheaper than Furious to produce, so that really isn't a consideration. We put it in the packs, because it's our #2 brand (after Furious) so despite the comments on this thread, there are still plenty of people who love that beer and buy it regularly.
That said, I'm not opposed to changing it up, every now and again, and the next two variety packs will not feature Xtra.
