    Hello BA:

Two friends and myself are making the first trip ever to both breweries. We'll be flying into Logan International for the day.

Any idea how long the wait for cans are on a Tuesday (saw on the Treehouse website, they don't even open can sales until 2:00pm)?

We'll be in and out in a day so any advice from those whom have done this or locals who can provide any help would be appreciated.

We're going to the Fort Point Trillium location.

Those whom have flown in, did you ship stuff back home or take it with you? I can take 3 cases of cans back but would rather ship anything above that back.

    Thank you.

Not sure about lines etc but I’d box things up and check them on the plane, usually cheaper than shipping and you will have them that day. No worry about them sitting on a ups truck heating up or freezing.

You’re flying in this weekend? Won’t be a wait for cans at Trillium, can be in and out there. It’s also close to the airport. May still be some of the resolution break stouts available too in bottles.

Tree House sells cans at noon on Tuesdays.

Flying with cans can be easier/cheaper than shipping but you gotta watch weight limits. 3 cases seems super ambitious unless you're checking a ton of bags. I've seen friends need to throw cans out at the airport because they were overweight upon trying to check the bag.

yup, and an overweight bag (depending on airline) can be $100+. practice at home how much you can pack and weigh it, assume 1 pound per can.

You're flying Michigan to Boston for the day just to go to these two breweries? That doesn't seem environmentally kind.

Does the can hold 16 ozs of beer? Are you assuming the can itself weighs nothing?

I weighed the cases empty and took into consideration the weight of the cans as well as the approximate weight of the contents, I could have added more than 36 per bag but didn't want to do what you're describing.

I did it a few months ago - but there were two of us, and we were both first class, so 70 lb limits on two bags on Delta. Got 5 cases back. But it was TIGHT.

Yeha - i've always found that to be a little low. It's about 1.15lbs per can - and of course the weight of the bag - I had a fairly heavy bag (on its own) and 2 cases in that bag got me to 72 lbs with padding - had to take clothing out and hope for the best. But got it to 70 lbs.

That flight, and 87,000 others (actual number), are flying that day regardless if he and his friends are onboard.

I've thrown clothing and shoes out at the airport that were in the same bag but never beer. You gotta weigh your bag before you head to the airport, crazy to head there with cases of beer and have no idea of the weight. Also beware of Spirit's 40lb limit (when every other airline I know of is 50 lbs.)

Am I still allowed to call them pounders?

What Spirit does, however, that many others won't, is allow 40 lbs PER bag - so if you have one at 47 and one at 33, you're good. Delta told me to go pound salt on a 72lb bag when one was 43 lbs - the bastards.

Still 100% true, insofar as the liquid is concerned.

This won't be relevant if you've drank their beers before, but if you haven't.....

... it might be worth it to go to Trillium for a couple beers and then head to Treehouse with a plan to return to Trillium later to buy the bulk of your cans then. That way you'll have tried both and can strategize how to distribute your 3 cases. Given how close to the airport Trillium is it won't complicate things much.

The two breweries get talked about in the same breath frequently, but I find them different enough that it wouldn't be surprising if you had a reasonably strong preference for one over the other.

I think it actually has more to do with the fact that it's "fluid oz" -- a volume measurement and not a weight... though it was based on the weight of water, and beer is mostly water, so a 16 fl. oz can of beer probably weights close to a pound, but since beer is denser than water and there is the can itself, it probably weighs slightly more.

Yeah and the can doesn't weight much. I think it's about 16-17 grams, or just over half an ounce.
