One thing is for sure, hunting down limited releases is a lot harder than even one or two years ago. Beer that used to linger for a week or more sells out in a day.

I feel the same way. I have a place near home where I know he'd hold stuff for me, but I can't go there too often because he upsells the sh(*)t out of what I am already planning on buying. Also, he gets his Surly from a distributor so I typically hit up SL Park for release day wants.

Plenty of Abyss on the shelf at Cellars in Shorewood. They also have some Backwoods Bastard left.

If anybody gets some bottles I'll take some. All my shops sold out before I could grab some and I gotta fill out this 06-present vertical....

Seriously, though, I'll take 4 bottles, pay in cash and I'll open a beer with you.

I didn't care much for this years' Abyss. Seriously. Too much oak for my liking and as it warmed it tasted like a mess. 2010 is still my fav.

I was around all week last week but didn't drive all over town to find this, stopped by a couple regular spots and they were sold out. I'm finding the new "norm" beer scene is getting old. I'm spending more on gas driving around finding beers than i am spending on the beers themselves. That's weak sauce.

It ain't what it used to be, but it also ain't what it used to be.

Abyss might be a bitch to find, but were also living in an era of so much new amazing beer hitting the market. We can bitch and moan, but the selection keeps getting better the people more knowledgeable and the beer gets better.

Yeah, definitely agree with you. I hope that as more top-notch beer gets distributed or brewed in our market, the likelihood that we can find more of the big beers should increase....unless the total number of people that can afford $15/bottle exceeds that pace. I do like to vent once in a while given that i work at a desk for 8+ hours a day and can't leave at a moments notice to drive all over town to find beers. In this era of - if you cant get to a liquor store within a couple of hours=your SOL, it's been increasingly tough to find the limited stuff. Natural market stuff here but it's frustrating some weeks.

Just grabbed a bottle at Falls Liquor about 20 min ago. Gotta ask for it at the counter. Didn't ask how many they had left though

MGM in Bloomington (98th & Lyndale) had just put some Abyss in the cooler tonight. I was lucky to get their last 4-pack of BCS so i left the Abyss for some other folks....well that and the fact i have 4 bottles already in the cellar.
