It really depends on how the beer was stored over those 6 months. If that beer was stored in my local Retail Beer Distributor which is not air conditioned over the months of June - September I would bet that beer at 6 months would not be so good.

    Cheers!

Hopefully you didn't drink any 6 month old Hofbrau Original during that timeframe!

    Cheers!

I did Parris Island in July thru Sept 1975, and I learned how to SWEAT.

I’m always amazed at the consistency of the big brewers like AB, whether you like their beers or not it their customers demand the beer they’re always drank, day in day out, year after year. Being that consistent given their volume is really quite a feat.

I'd like to see a..umm...Budweiser classic, maybe like it was brewed back in the 50s or 60s. Before the IBUs shrunk down to what they are today.

Me too, and in the proper cans and bottle for the period, and forget the Ambers, or Jim Beam stuff too, that’s not why you buy Bud in the first place.

Sort of related but in a recent thread on the New England forum we've been discussing that some of Jack's Abby's batches (year to year of the same beer) are clear and some aren't. They don't filter their beers.

This would possibly have to do with lagering times right?

I kinda doubt they're overly concerned with it at a year out either. Seeing as instead of "best by" on the bottle it just says "L 042".

that and possibly how that particular keg may have been filled. was it near first/last coming out of the tank and thus picked up some yeast/residuals? that's the "danger" when you don't filter (and are going for brite beer)

No idea, these were all cans (or in my case when it was clear, I believe the beer was bottled years go).

I also don't know if they're necessarily going for brite beer either, as they specifically say on the cans that the beers are unfiltered, so they're kind of giving you a heads up.

Then again they do have an entirely separate "Keller" series, so who knows.

same would apply to order in canning (vs kegging). strange that they have a keller series as well. once those sit stationary in cold temps (in keg or can) they're gonna drop more brite

Why did they change it? Makes me wonder if American beer reputation is more a recent trend...

Yup, a totally separate section for their beers.

I mean, technically it's true. Kellerbier can range from any one of those "styles" to another. On the other hand, Kellerbier doesn't *just* mean unfiltered whatever.... But: marketing. Whatcha gonna do?

For what it's worth a lot of the beers from their series are quite good, especially the latest one, their German Porter.

The beer I was referencing though that was sometimes clear and sometimes wasn't isn't a part of that series, that's their Sunny Ridge Pilsner. But it is still unfiltered (and I also believe it is unpasteurized, like all their beers).

One of the best porters I've come across in quite a while and for a ridiculously good price.

Huge Sunny Ridge fan (was told they almost didn't bring it by this year) and I noticed what you're talking about last year. Some cases were hazed while others were crystal clear.
I'm on my second 6 pack this year and both have been on the cloudy side.

Isn't "kellerbier" just originally referring to beer served straight from the lagering tanks?
I was looking through a small section of German kellerbiers at a bottle shop, trying to find the freshest one, and the proprietor told me I was wasting my time. After all, didn't I know " that kellerbier means beer from the cellar, it doesn't get stale":grimacing:
