Do it! I would tell people my favorite, but then it would probably disappear off shelves or prices would triple.

More of a Night Train guy myself.

And yes, this thread should be made.

All these crazy kids and their hyped beers. Getting suckered in by the bright lights of the city and smooth talking home brewers. I know they don't actually like these beers, they're just afraid their friends will make fun of them for drinking Dragon's Milk. If I could just sit them down, give em a sip of Deth's Tar and explain Roth IRA's to em, maybe this could all be solved.

Oh yeah, now we can bring bourbon hype into this board's crosshairs too. "I can't believe people chase bourbon, don't they know you can find a Knob Creek store pick almost anywhere?"

There is absolutely a difference between a bourbon enthusiast, a lover of bourbon, and someone that enjoys bourbon.

It’s the same way as with beer. There are beer drinkers (beer lovers) that will drink basically any beer, and consume such a high proportion of beer, that their daily drinkers need to be fairly inexpensive, and as a result, they can’t imagine ever paying more than XXX for a beer! Those people are crazy! It’s not like what it used to be before the hype!!!

Then there is the enthusiast, that is absolutely a consumer (someone even heavily), and is very passionate about the good, reads, posts, reviews, looks for beer or bourbon ****, but does not just consume anything and everything, and understands and is willing to pay more for quality, and even stand in line.

Then you have your lovers. These individuals find specific things they want, but find that they are picky. They still enjoy the hobby side, will still hoard, and will go balls to the wall for what they like. They are able and willing to pay more for something they like when they come across it (and will stand in line), and are willing to do so since, on average, they spend a lot less. They often run into the “buying more than i am drinking” category. They don’t really understand why people balk so much at some of the prices for better items, although they always understand the crazy outliers, and generally have distaste for the secondary market.

I fall somewhere between the lover and enthusiast (for both, but more so for whiskey). I love the hobby aspect, I am passionate, and I enjoy engaging about it. I have made many friends through this hobby. Buuut, I am not always a beer lover across everything. I have certain styles that I prefer more than others, and stick to those, but even within those styles I am pretty god damn picky. I am much less likely to like/enjoy a BA Stout rated a 4.25-4.5 than your average BA, and more likely to rate it a 3.75-4.0. This is exacerbated when it comes to whiskey. I like certain whiskey, and certainly like good whiskey, but I do not love all whiskey. In fact, lots of whiskey that people say is “good!” And “I can’t believe this sits on the shelf!” Is whiskey that I...will pretty much never drink. Just not my thing. Maybe I don’t love whiskey. Maybe I don’t love beer. What I have found is that I do love certain items from both, and I’ll stick to those, and enjoy the ride.

    Notes of Cinemax After Dark

Ok, I’m done derailing for now. I will say that I created a Chicago Bourbon thread and it was promptly moved to a place on the forums I can’t find.

Back on the stout front, Chicago has finally created more supply than I can demand. Jackie O’s Champion Grounds and Parabola are languishing on shelves, Goose Fulton has weird one-off bourbon county on draft, HA is sneakily dropping barrel-aged bombs IN CANS, I didn’t get the new P3 pressed because I still have the last releases... I give up! I’m tapping out! No one tell me about any more releases!
