I appreciate the compliment for our sweet dog, but I will add this: he's beautiful until he decides to jump on the bed at 4 am because he thinks he heard something outside.

He's not so beautiful then - it's like 3 furry bowling balls are hitting you concurrently.

Fortunately, that doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it's ..... memorable.

Cheers NBSers. Over halfway through FebDRYary and going strong. Will be back with beer and reviews in March.

But I always have been, and our family is a dog family. I am an only child but my uncle showed up with my first dog when I was 4. He told my dad that she would probably be about 30 lbs. My dad asked then why does she have feet the size of snow shoes. Hawk was a German Shepard Malamute X and ended up weighing 155. So the only sibling I had was a dog the size of a bear lol.

Our two pups today are both from Rezdog Rescue. A local lady goes to the reservation and picks up the pups, gets them spayed and neutered and finds excellent homes for them. Barney and Lizzie are 2 and 1 respectively and full of energy. It’s never a dull moment.

Bending the rules of NBS, I know that we should be trying something new or at least haven’t reviewed before, but the to celebrate the 15th anniversary of NBS I decided to drink some 15% ABV. The only beer I found I had that for that was Dark Lord and since it was aged to years I decided to write a new review and put it along side my old review. Definitely a lot of similarities between the reviews, but I really liked how the aged bottle smoothed out. My rating did go up from a 4.29 to a 4,36. Both bottles, along with everything else I own with a Three Floyds logo, were sent to me by my man @bstyle, thanks!!

    Thank you bstyle!!
22 oz bottle, 2018, poured into a teku

A- Black with a small mocha head. 4.25

S- Dark fruits, molasses, some vanilla, some roasted coffee, chocolate, some caramel. 4.5

T- Dark fruits, some vanilla, molasses, chocolate, touch of coffee, plums, some caramel. 4.25

    M- Smooth, full body. 4.25

O- Almost two years old and really like how it smooths out from fresh. Still sweet, but has a nice balance. Surprisingly easy to drink, really like how this aged. 4.5

Fresh bottle, 2015 bottle drunk in May of 2015:

Big thanks to bstyle for this, have been wanting to try this for years
22 oz bottle, 2015, poured into a teku

A- Pitch black with a two finger mocha head. 4.5

S- Coffee, roasted malts, some molasses, vanilla, dark fruits/figs, definitely sweet. 4.25

T- Roasted coffee, chocolate, vanilla, molasses, dark fruits, figs, plums, slight heat and bitterness in the finish. Upfront is bitter coffee, middle is really sweet, could be more balanced but still enjoyable. 4.25

M- Surprisingly smooth, full body, slightly syrupy. 4

O- This is sweeter than I thought it would be. This is sweet, but doesn't taste like 15% ABV. I am very happy I got the try this, worth seeking out, definitely would like to see how this ages. 4.5

Ah, thanks! I figured I would screw something up the first time. Didn’t even mention my two dogs, Icelandic Sheepdogs, one a rescue. I will have to figure out how to photograph them better as the pictures I have currently are rather sad.

Haven't done many of these but @DoctorZombies asked that I bring him a beer from Tyranena when I see him next month. I certainly could not do that without testing it first. I have not had many of their beers previously and the other day picked up a 4 pak of Tapping The Sugarbush a BA Imperial Porter. My review follows-
    [IMG]
Dogs, we have had dogs here for most of my married life. The exception was a break in 2016 until early 2017 when we got Skipper a tri-colored English Springer

Here he is as a baby I love the brown spots above his eyes
    [IMG]

This is him at the end of 2019

And from last October, he had to go to the dogwash after having fun at the dogpark

    He's a good boy !

No beer today, but I have to chime in on the theme of the day. The wife and I are animal lovers. We have had birds, reptiles, and we still have fish. We have baby-sat exotics (oh honey??? how many door mice were there? was it 12 or 14...are we sure they all went back?) for a science center during construction. We have owned two horses. Before we were married, the missus held a harbor seal overnight for the aquarium in her bath tub...

Dogs have been a constant. When we were first married, I was still hunting so we purchased a lab pup who not only hunted but was the sweetest dog just to have around. To her, we added a rescue beagle who had contracted heartworm and wasn't expected to survive the treatment. Twelve years later, he passed away.

We adopted a Cavalier King Charles spaniel next from a crowded kennel. Beautiful dog with championship bloodlines all the way back to the origins of the breed. Didn't keep him from tipping over the garbage can and rummaging. We added a Boston Terrier puppy from a questionable breeder, and Todd will be our favorite dog no matter how long we live...both traveled everywhere with us and the two kids. But Todd was just special, eager to please, and a ball of joy. If you weren't happy, neither was he - very sensitive to human moods. Unfortunately passed away at 8 and we are still sad.

Some time during Todds tenure we ventured into cars. My son took a kitten from a friend. My wife collected a stray that had wandered into her colleague's house. This was Mitzi and she came with surprises and we soon had three kittens. So five cats, two dogs.

When we lost Todd and the spaniel, we had a brief time with no dogs until a work colleague of mine was sending two five year old lab sisters to the pound. A weird case...the dogs lived in the basement, were given unlimited food and water, and even though there was a beautifully fenced yard, they got no exercise and were massively overweight. This was a case of people not agreeing philosophically. One wanted the dogs to be part of the family, one couldn't be bothered, They were about five when we took them home and they lived to 18 after getting down to normal lab weight. They were affectionate as hell with us, but remained untrusting of strangers.

And the cats - we lost the last one about a year or so ago. My wife was devastated and we took another break.

So...we start hearing from a church friend about this lady who is elderly with a bunch of dogs in the house. Breeder of champion Shih tzus when she was younger. Problem is she never stopped. We think there were 16 dogs in the house, but there could have been more. All healthy, but basically living in a pack. We were going to adopt two adults, but there was one puppy maybe six weeks old and we couldn't leave him...So home they all came one Saturday a while back.

They are adjusting and unlearning pack behavior. We are adjusting to these small demons - they aren't like any dogs we have experienced before. Very intelligent, highly curious, more energetic than they are supposed to be, somewhat picky eaters, and one is actually a good watchdog with the alert thing. Everything I read researching the breed seems to be bullshit. They are becoming more affectionate and are starting to follow basic commands. I don't think they will ever be eager to please we mere humans, but they are at least doing sit, come at 50%success rate, kennel, and ask to go outside. We are growing on each other.

So not rescues in the traditional sense, but the last five I think we have done the right thing. Most people I know prefer rescues these days. My daughter did legit rescue her two. The "beagle " Duke who is a treeing Walker **** hound. Then there is King Louis - we don't know what he is but now that he is healthy he is 140 pounds of couch potato...a real sweetheart. Unlike Duke who needs time to RUN, Louis has the idea that exercise means take ten leisurely minutes to stroll outside to...lay down and take a nap.

I had too much fun last night, so I'm not posting or drinking any beers today. No pictures of our dogs. The Youngest is Cope, he's an American Foxhound with some Whippet we think ( when gets lose he runs like the wind. He is Blonde with some black & white coloration, he's about 7 years old .

Our oldman is Buster, he is a 14 year old (we think ) Westy with bad breath issues & near blind. Having said that he gets around good except for ocassionaly running into dooorjams. He was my late Father-in-Law's dog ( long story ) & we thrilled he is still hanging in there

    Well Hello Late Night NBS!
I'm sitting here with my beautiful rescue pooch Sonny. We just celebrated his 3rd birthday.
Nice to have a little extra time this weekend. 3 day weekends should be the norm. I mean I work so much during the week, and I usually have a bit to do on Sunday as well. So where the hell is the "weekend" I ask? Anyway...on to the beer.

Blueberry Pancake Milkshake Stout by Rochester Mills Beer Co.
Thanks to superspak for this heavenly smelling gem. Record in NBS BIF #10
Pours a dark brown, light fluffy tan head rises a finger or so in height. Pearlescent bubbles reflect the light. Shy on the lacing.
Aromas are lush, moist blueberry heavy muffins. Really does waft of fresh off the grill blueberry pancakes.
Flavor doesn't follow so faithfully. Notes of blueberries, vanilla, and caramelized sugars for sure. But a most minuscule char note comes through with a slight earthiness.
Mouthfeel is smooth, lightly carbonated. Not quite as creamy of a mouthfeel that I would expect for a milk stout.
Overall, pretty tasty. Probably pretty hard to live up to the promise of the nose. Definitely worth a try.

    look: 3.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

Damn Mike. You said it so well. I've been blessed with many a fine canine friend. Each and everyone gave me more than I could ever return. Sometimes I shake my fist at the heavens, confused by Creation's obvious mistake to give our canine brethren such short lifespans. I know some people say they live shorter lives because they pack so much love into them, but still...
