He isn’t, but even if he was, who gives a fuck? BTW, saying that Stuttrud, and many of his generation have been left in the dust when it comes to being on the cutting-edge of craft beer isn’t out of bounds. Many, perhaps most have been. Clearly. So it goes.

Maybe you didn't read my posts carefully enough.

I was not defending Summit's market decisions, only explaining my view of them. Others who were criticizing them for dropping some of their more traditional beers, well, perhaps they were.

And, clearly, I did not take @Chaz's post as "friendly". And, he has not clarified, either. Chaz?

Good point. I’m not sure his post was meant to be friendly towards Islay. He is a level 50 gas-lighter, and has been known to chafe from time to time.

Also had Surly Loops and Dots 6 packs for under $5 I think. Canned January 24th.

Thanks for this, I probably would have missed it otherwise. It's a really excellent beer fwiw. I'd drink a shit ton if it wasn't limited to a sampler.

I like it. I too would buy more if it was in a 12 pack by itself. It might still be at the taproom

I see Alloy released there Doppelbock, with bock poking today. I want to try this beer sometime but I am working today.

Pantown doppel bock is out too.

I might go to Northbound tonight to try there new amber bock

I haven't tried it. It'll be in the Peacock Pack.

Stag Series Maibock and Cream Ale are the two, newest brands to appear in the most recent “Peacock Pack.”

The very next offering in the Stag Series — Bier de Garde — will arrive in the next quarterly sampler pack, “Biergarten In A Box”, later this spring:

At this point I ought to let you in on an open secret: “Joe Six-pack” can legally see what releases most breweries* have on the horizon, and it just takes a bit of poking around.

TTB has for some time made listings of a brewery’s Certificate of Label Approval available to anyone, at the following URL:

    https://www.ttbonline.gov/colasonline/publicSearchColasBasic.do

On the bottom half of the page is a box marked: “Basic Search Criteria”

In order to help refine your search, select the appropriate date range from the two search fields indicated. E.g.:
    “From” (03/01/2019) “To” (03/08/2020)

Typically, you will need to back track a few months when entering a date in the “From” field, but add the most recent date (today’s date) in the “To” field.

Now, in the two search fields following “Product Class / Type”, enter the numbers 900 and 959, respectively. This will allow you to see (most) of the results for beer and associated malt beverage classes.

Below this line, enter 27 in the search field following “Origin Code” — that’s the state designation for Minnesota.

Now, press the “Search” button at the far right side of the grey colored bar at the bottom of the page.

If you’ve followed these instructions in this order, you should see a list of the labels (brands) which have been approved, along with the date of their approval.

Breweries are denoted by their TTB ID, Permit Number, and Brand Name (Short Form of Legal Name).

Even though it only has the two new brands of BORING BLAHHHHHGER, the Peacock Pack is worth it. In my not very humble opinion, DUH!

Now... Get. Off. My. Lawn. (wink, wink)

*Not all brands need label approval from TTB. I’m likely mistaken on this by now (I have not been in the industry, technically, since 2007), but as I recall, brands from breweries which do not cross state lines (in other words, brands sold only within the state in which a brewery calls home and in which they have legal distribution within) do not need such approval. Feel free to offer corrections to my blather, @islay , @MNAle

I bought a Peacock 12 pack. The maibock is good, I only drank one can so far. It's hoppy. kinda drinks like a IPL. Malt the first half then hops the second half. Is it different from the old Maibock? I am not sure, it's been about 3 years since I had the old one. The old one was hoppy too.

The cream ale is good, tasty and easy drinking. But it's not heavy duty.

I went to Town Hall and North Bound today. Bought a crowler of Town hall bock for home. will report on the bock after i drink it in the near future

All I know about beer label approval laws is what I read here on BA, but it makes sense that the Feds would have no say unless it involves interstate commerce. IDK if MN has label approval laws.

Besides, who am I to dispute such a wall of text? :stuck_out_tongue:

I really liked the TH bock when we were there for the barrel aged week. Might rate it slightly ahead of Schell's which is the standard for me.

I started with a pint of that and it might have been the highlight although there were several others that stood out on the BA side.

Would be interesting to know if this is Maifest in different cans or a new recipe. I did think the old Maifest leaned hoppy though..

Ya I not sure if it's a new recipe or not. hard to remember exactly how a beer was 3 years later.

hey Schells put Schmaltz's Alt in a mixed 12 pack next.

I like Northbound Doppelbock better than TH bock, but the TH dortmunder was very good. I had a full pour of dort and bock at TH. I thought Northbound Wild rice amber was very good too

hey Chaz I can't send you a message?...

I guess it's a trend: put new, dieing/all but dead, one time only, can't sell on it's own and recycled beers is mixed 12/24 packs

Northbound is highly underrated. Love that place. Excellent brewer if its the original guy with Town Hall background.

It's just way out of the way for me and they are one of the few remaining places sticking to the "We only fill our growlers for quality reasons" argument." which holds no truth*. For that reason alone I do not go that way often and if I do I hit Venn which does fill growlers from anywhere.

*By this I mean if I bring in a Beaver Island growler or a Northbound growler and they fill that growler from the tap after disinfecting it it has no bearing on the quality what the label says.

If the growler is too dirty perhaps they would trade the Northbound out for one of theirs that is clean. Fair enough. But then if I brought in the dirty Beaver Island one they should just say "Sorry...too dirty"

If they sub them out for prefills that is a legit reason but probably illegal according the laws governing this. Prefills the way I read it are illegal but some still do it. Don't agree it should be illegal but it reads that way. I digress. Been awhile since I went on a growler rant since most fill from anywhere now but there are still a few who think they know better.

Crowlers are the wave of the future/present though. I'll pay a little extra for those as long as I don't have to buy more glass.
