Don’t do it. Could be over a month old by now and wasn’t even very good fresh in bottles

They had a 2/14 bottling so I’d ask for that specifically. Worth chasing after once just to try it.

But it wasn’t even that good fresh though!!! I love opinions, it makes it easier when making choices and when it doesn’t work out I can blame someone else.

So back on topic, even if you received a 2/5 bottle within a week, it would only be a month old.

I’ve had bottles of PTE that were 2 weeks old that were malt bombs.

Russian River was on the cutting edge 10 years ago now they are on the step it up and get with the times list for me and many others. Evolution is the key and they are not evolving.

Wait a minute, are saying that you haven’t had pty? You’ve only had pte and at 2 weeks it was a malt bomb? Sounds like you’re “bitter” about your experience so far of RRB. Maybe try pty first before making opinions about something you haven’t had yet. As far as pte goes I don’t know what to tell you but I love it and maybe your palate is just different from the people who love pte.

I thought pty was quite good. Not $100 good but well worth trying just so you can say you’ve had it

I’ve had PYY every year for the last 10. Once at a Russian River. PTE is a good beer on draft. Always has been. The bottles just hold up like crap. I’m not stupid enough to pay the asking price for a younger bottle as I can go to any number of bars within 10 miles of my house and have it this time of year.

And there’s the bait and switch. Had a feeling where this was going. But anyhow, back to my original point of opinions, for everyone that didn’t like it, hated it or just didn’t care for it there’s people on the other side of that argument. You could have just stated what you just mentioned the first time which doesn’t give you much credence after the fact. Again you stated you had pte in bottles before, twice, or has that changed as well? How were the bottles handled, was it shipped fast, was cold the whole time and so on and so on. You are making a generalization based limited sample size (pte in bottlesx2)on something you have never had before (pty in bottles). You also mentioned that you’ve had pte and pty on draft and it was good, or at least pte was. You really didn’t mention what you thought of pty. However you mentioned that you be stupid for trading for pty because it’s available near by but the OP may have never had it before or isn’t as lucky as you to to try pty and is willing to trade for it. I mean isn’t that why 99% of are here for?

I wouldn't say it would be "stupid" of someone to pay the secondary fees just so they can try it. As you've stated, you have great access to it where you are and don't think its worth it. Someone who hasn't had it and think that this is their only and best chance to try it would disagree (likely they'll bottle it again next year, but that's besides the point).

For me living in VA, to shell out $75 to try a legendary beer that was previously only accessible to those living in SF and a choice few on the East Coast is worthwhile. It's more worthwhile for me to shell out a few bucks and have it delivered to my doorstep than to make travel arrangements and accommodations to go to a Philly or SF area to try it.

You've made it a point to try it every year for the last 10 years so YOU must think its good. I agree that it is a good beer and worth trying at least once.

If you have the disposable income and do not have a local trade partner to that area it really isn't a bad idea to go to the secondary market. It doesn't sound stupid to me at all...
