Btw, who do you work for? I would like to call your boss and have a talk with him and clear up the situation. Cause you are obviously over charging for beers of mine that doesn't even excist.

    Thanks again,
    Jeppe

Not to pile on top, but...your original post led the readers to believe that Terrapin is contract brewed. This is simply not true. All of their beer is brewed and bottled/kegged at their own brewery in Athens.

If you think that the beers aren't worth the price that's fine, don't buy them, it's a discretionary item not a necessity. I don't understand the attitude some people have that they're entitled to a company's beer for whatever price they deem to be fair. Do BMW make you angry because they make some of their SUVs in the US but charge higher prices than Ford or Dodge do for their SUVs?

Dude, this just got good. A nice read after reading the El Cajon issue on the Pacific forums. Good day is good.

Well, here's the good news. Personally, the next time I'm shopping at my local bottle shop, I will be much more inclined to pick up a bottle from Evil Twin now versus before this thread. Good stuff everyone!

There are plenty of beers brewed in the US under similar arrangements (brewery "rental" -> distro -> retailer) that cost substantially less. What am I missing that makes ET beers different?

What does Terrapin contract brew? Or am I mis-reading your post?

examples usually strengthen one's argument (not saying that your statement is false, just that it would hold more weight with specifics behind it).

I'm sure irs expensive because the brewer had to pay to brew at that brewery. Hr is a gypsy brewer man.

I don't know which of ET's beers are US-made or Jeppe's expected retail price (he seemed to imply that $10.50 is incorrect), but $10.50/12oz makes it pricier than the entire line of Pretty Things beers (typically $6-$12/22oz) and most--if not all--Stillwater (what, $15/750?) beers.

As he said, the only bottles that he contracts from Westbrook are bombers, and those usually run between 10-15. all of the 11.2 oz bottles which he sells are produced in Europe and imported.

Maybe OP mistook Evil Twin for BrewDog?

I like Evil Twin. Imperial Biscotti is one of the best non-barrel aged imperial stouts on the planet, and Even More Jesus was fantastic too. Also, I understand that a great many things that factor into cost are beyond your control.

However, can you explain why Evil Twin beers are so substantially more expensive than all the other beers I see on shelves? The gypsy brewer beers are a freaking fortune relative to other breweries. I'm guessing the answer is because it's contract brewed, but I've seen other breweries contract brew, and they don't charge anything near the prices of Evil Twin and Mikk.

One example is Terrapin. They're not contract brewed anymore, but they were for the first few years -- and their beers were reasonably priced. Wild Heaven, I believe, is contract brewed, and their prices are reasonable too. Brooklyn Brewing has or does contract brew some of their stuff, and their prices are some of the best in the country.

    $15 for a non-barrel aged bomber is a fortune.

Don't get me wrong. IBB is liquid gold, and I've got 8 sitting at home. But still. BBCS is pretty darn good too, and it's $8 for a 4-pack. KBS and BCS are about $20-25 for a 4-pack, and they're bourbon barrel aged.

Did you not read my post?

Quote: "I never have brewed a beer in the US and released it in 11.2 oz bottles. I haven't even done it in 12oz bottles"

So why do we keep discussing a $10.50/12oz that doesn't excist?

You have to remember that you are comparing US-made vs. imported, which is always going to raise the price (as you end up dealing with a four-tier system instead of three).

This reminds me of that thread from the other day where someone was complaining a bar wouldn't sell him BCBS at a discount.

How would Jeppe & Brian (from Stillwater) eat at all those fancy restaurants if they had normal-priced beers?
