Yes, AC often uses real ingredients vanilla, nuts, marshmallows (which really is just sugar, gelatin, and vanilla), but many breweries use “natural flavorings” which often taste artificial.

Hazelnut is a perfect example, hazelnut beers almost always use a flavoring. Strawberry flavoring is another one that is often used since strawberries are notoriously hard to work with. OG Scooop to me was overly sweet and tasted of “strawberry flavoring” while many loved it, it’s not my cup of tea.

While I posted originally it was meant with a sense of humor and I firmly believe in enjoying the beer you enjoy. Though strawberries in IGCCS makes me scratch my head in wonderment.

Yeah but we're not talking about "many breweries"... we're talking about AC and Cycle.

Fionn is real hazelnuts isn't it? One of my favorite AC beers either way.

I think unless someone admits to how they're achieving the strawberry we can't assume one way or another, can we?

    Scoop used “natural flavoring”
AC and Cycle both use “natural ingredients” this includes flavorings this is known. Nothing wrong with this at all just taste preference. To me Hazelnut flavoring tastes “better” then real hazelnuts.

Fionn almost certainly uses a flavoring you can’t get that flavor using real hazelnuts. Eat a hazelnut then taste something hazelnut flavored they don’t Even really taste the same. As I said nothing inherently wrong with this I just feel strawberry flavoring has a strange artificial taste, if someone likes it I’m cool with it. But yes these breweries do use natural flavorings.

I dunno...every time I have a beer that has hazelnut flavoring in it, it tastes like caramel corn to me (even buttery sometimes). AC either has some different, magical version of it, or I swear it's the real McCoy.

building off of this, adjunct trail uses “hazelnut coffee” not “hazelnut and coffee”. And 3 sons, who technically collabed with cycle for Rare Scoop, uses a bunch of “natural flavorings”

that being said, AC’s maple beers don’t taste like they use maple flavoring since they don’t have that maple smell that permeates the room like morning delight and the like

MD uses maple that TG smokes themselves on their family farm.

and maple extract. There’s no other way to get an aroma that robust

They said they then reduce their farm's maple it to an inedible form, that's very near solid, so, if you want to call that extract, feel free, or else call them liars. This is straight from the owners mouth in person and has been widely discussed elsewhere.

If you've had Mikerphone's garbage next to MD, you know the differences are stark.

I’m not saying they don’t do that. I’m saying they also use extract in tandem with that. Even the most reduced maple syrup doesn’t smell like that

I think to say something like that, you'd need to prove it. And considering how up in arms people have been right now over breweries lying to them, it'd be a pretty big deal for this to be true.

Just to clarify, this is how they did batches 1-4. It is my understanding that they have now stated that they cannot make enough of their own syrup for batches 5 & 6. I actually think 1-4 has better aroma, but my personal preference is 2>5>6>3>4. Never got to try batch 1.

When did they state that and where? It's still a once a year release, and I'm not sure where the numbers would be to point to batch comparisons.

I couldn't find it online when I just searched. I did just ask Mike and TG on Twitter where it comes from now. I will let you know if they respond. I did discuss it at the batch 5 release, but don't remember with whom.

I can guess on batch size now, but that is purely a guess as they keep that pretty secretive.

Last bottle is a non-BA PB&J Stout w/Forager I believe. Not named yet.

Haven’t seen update on tap list.
