Good afternoon NBS!! Hope everyone is well, ran a few errands earlier, including completing a in-person trade and I hope to review at least one of those beers after I review the two beers I had lined up for today. Right now I’m enjoying a can of Little Log Cabin Cozy and playing FFVII.

    Hey what's going on!?

It's new beer day for our hero... Just like almost any other day being such a big fan of new beers and new experiences.

And boy is this beer new... beyond new. I had to add it, it was so new. Even a new picture, new everything.. so new ...

So what's new for our hero today?

Poured from the can into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Very small sized head for an IPA. Makes barely a finger of proper colored and fine creamy off white foam, with at least some staying power on a simple topped puck. Body color is hazy, not very turbid but a simple nice light orange grapefruit and not turbid it all. All things considered where did the head go?

Aroma is at least large and hoppy. Sticky notes of earth and dankness, following a bit of chalky sensations though as well in the mix. Heavily earthy and pungent, not a fruit bomb by any means.

Palate is in the right place and heart at least. Slightly juiced body, with definitely now more fruit hop tones in the mix. Mid palate hits with tropical mango, and some big orange juice like flavors. Slightly creamy palate but it's also quite a bit wet and sort of flattened, which may explain the lack of carbonation and head creation thinking back. Aftertaste has a good wintergreen mix and the earthy notes certainly come out on the finish with a spicy like bent.

Good tasting IPA with a few things that need improvement.

    Cheers!

I found this at the store yesterday. I don't remember seeing this Cigar City RIS before, so I picked it up.

Marshal Zhukov’s Imperial Stout. Bomber bottle, at 11.8% ABV.

Pours an impressive opaque black color. A dense two finger tan head forms with excellent retention. Light lace is left behind.

Aroma is dark fruits. Like raisins and cherries. Roast, bakers chocolate, and coffee. A bit of fusel/lightly solvent like alcohol. Though that should be expected.

Flavor is much the same. With the dark fruits, and tons of malty flavors. Raisins, plums, cherries. Roast, bakers chocolate that is bitter sweet. The alcohol is less noticeable than in the nose, but still there obviously.

A big full body. Good carbonation, but also that perfect chewiness. A silky smooth body. This is a nice sipper. Really enjoyable all around, and the alcohol is certainly present. It is more a compliment to a big malty body though.

    Overall score is 4.13

This is a great example of a RIS. Glad I found a bottle of this, and will enjoy it on a lazy Sunday with some good music and books. I just finished a four pack of Saint Arnold's new Commitment Imperial Stout. At 13.4% ABV. Both are similar, especially with the dark fruit character. I should get some more and do a side by side comparison next time. Reviews for both are below:

Smell is tangerine, pine, apricot, and grapefruit. 4

Taste follows old school pine, tangerine, apricot, and a healthy shot of grapefruit in the bold lingering finish. 4

Mouthfeel is big, plenty of life, a tad dry and sticky, and at 9.2% goes down rather easy but if you are only a into haze you may struggle with this one. 4.25

Overall this is very solid, but again if you aren’t into West Coast aggressive DIPAs you may be a little overwhelmed. 4.25

Travelled to Nashville for business this week. Flew in Tuesday after the tornadoes and we flew over a high school that looked like it had been reduced to kindling. Had a good convention and managed to take in some activities : George Thorogood & the Destroyers at the Ryman and Maddie & Tae at the Country music Hall of fame . I usually Bahr a pilgrimage to Bearded Iris when I am in town but they had lost power. Thoughts and prayers for all of the good folks in Nashville

    500mL can, EXP 05/2021. 2019 Kalea/Costco Advent calendar.

Aroma is weak. Sweetish malts, bready / grainy, floral-herbal.

Clear to very slightly hazy golden yellow with moderate level of carbonation rising to a 1/2 inch white head that only lasts a few minutes, becoming a thick cap, and leaving a little lacing behind.

Taste is nicely hoppy with a solid grain/bread backing. Slightly sweet. The middle brings a slight mineral taste, with some bittering continuing into the finish and fading in the aftertaste. The finish is crisp and dry with the mineral flavor lingering.

Mouth feel is moderate body and a crisp finish.

Overall, a good pilsner. Crisp, refreshing, and easy drinking. Good flavor. In other words, good but not great.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Sippers and commentators. There's a hint of Spring in the North Jersey air (no, it's not exhaust). But it's always Stout season for me. Two of New Jersey's best known brewers, Magnify and Kane, have recently collaborated on two stout projects. The one brewed at Magnify was released this week. Sweeter, Thicker, Darker, Stronger, a 13% Imperial Stout. Triple chocolate brownie batter, powdered coconut, and ‪coconut palm‬ sugar were added to the boil, and the stout was then conditioned on coconut and Madagascar vanilla. When first sipped, it seemed unduly sweet but as I let it settle in the glass it balanced nicely with bitter char and burnt nuts. What's interesting is that you can detect the contribution of both brewers. Magnify tends to be brash and adventuresome in its big stouts; no guts - not glory. As a result, some are stunningly good and others are (honestly) head scratchers. Kane, on the other hand, is consistently exquisite. I honestly couldn't envision Kane brewing this recipe or Magnify brewing it as well. It's a great collaboration. Here's my full review:

    4.43/5 rDev 0%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Reviewed five days after bottle release. Poured into a Kane pub glass. It pours a dark walnut with deep cola hues at the bottom of the glass and it has a large, creamy, medium khaki-colored head and thick, creamy lacing. It smells just like a brownie: cocoa, vanilla, coconut, and whiffs of earthy char and tobacco. It's incredibly decadent with rich cocoa , buttery brownie batter, coconut and hints of vanilla. At first, the sweetness seems overpowering but it is quickly balanced by burnt nuts, unsweetened chocolate, and earthy char. As the Stout settles in the glass, the flavors become more blended, seamless, and enjoyable. The mouth feel is terrific: thick and chewy with mild carbonation, and the 13% ABV is not overpowering or distracting. It's most definitely a dessert sipper and would pair perfectly with vanilla ice cream and biscotti. What's interesting is that you can discern the work of both brewers. Magnify often brews huge, sweet pastry stouts but they are sometimes uneven. Kane has totally nailed the style and contributes finesse. It's a fine Imperial Stout.

I hope you're all enjoying your new beer(s) this afternoon. Cheers, NBS!

Lupulin Imperial Peanut Butter Truffle Porter, 9% ABV. Pours black and moderately thick with a 2+ finger light brown head that left foamy lacing. Nose is peanut butter and chocolate, taste follows, like a peanut butter cup, though some bitterness thrown in like it was made with dark chocolate. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. This was part of a four variant variety pack, and this has been the best by far (over Coconut and Hazelnut), with Raspberry left to go. This would be great Rum BA, but what wouldn't.

Incredible spring day here, supposed to set a record at 70 degrees. Went for a walk wearing shorts, and we're grilling steaks for supper. Snow is about gone, but I'm sure we've got a couple more snowstorms queued up.

Scofflaw, Cocao in Absentia, aroma of chocolate, coffee, cocoa, sweetness, smooth chocolate with a bit of whiskey warming the beer a bit, will sip cautiously at 13.9% or it’ll be lights out!

I sat all night in the kettle of fish bar with my brother decades ago. Not the renovated bar but the old dive kettle of fish in the village NY.
Sat there talking to some old irish guy and drank so much that he said we were the best young men he ever met. Wanted to take us home and marry his daughters(this didn't end up happening)
My point is it was the first time I sat at a bar and just hung out talking to new folks and having a good time. We all got over our differences and choice friendliness and fun over anything else
This site and NBS sunday to me combines that great experience with the joy of craft beer. I dont think -im conveniently forgetting anything-. I also planned ahead for NBS @ovaltine as well as what the thoughtful new topic might be. To regulate what -felt- close to perfect in an already regulated world just feels off.
Being self employed I still take my hat off to the crew that runs this site,I'm sure it's a lot of work

    Oh yeah..left hand PB stout
    ..solid black
..light carbonation with an above average body. Has a slick oily feel which overall produces an excellent body
..aroma is peanut butter, roasted malt, espresso, black coffee
...taste is peanut butter, fresh black coffee, roasted malt, espresso beans.
...this has a really nice body, really delivers peanut butter and has the right amount of coffee. Cant drink PB beers too often but if I do I want them to be this good[IMG]

New beer number two today...I’ve waited long enough to crack open the only BCB Vanilla Stout I got on Black Friday 2018...fingers crossed:

Poured a bit cold at 50 degrees, opaque black with ruby see through body; dark tan, tight mostly fizzy head that retreats fairly quickly leaving a small island of micro dots and thin plus ring; micro dots of lace at best/but hang around as liquid is consumed; thick sticky legs sheet the glass on swirl; some small bits of sediment are observed near the end of the glass. Aromas of chocolate fudge and vanilla; mild bourbon on exhale; black licorice and steady strong vanilla as liquid warms. Initial pass across the tongue features chocolate fudge beater batter, vanilla and marshmallow; lite char; as stout warms from 50 to 55 degrees, more vanilla cake with raisins and figs pile on; bourbon on the backend; semi sweet vanilla cake with chocolate fudge icing finish; very little hint of alcohol in the flavor, still the bourbon is in the background. Smooth, rich, almost chewy body; dry barrel oaky/leather tongue coating; alcohol bite (14.9%) on tip of tongue, and slight face flushing from warmth. Overall, delicious!; the silky lux feel and layers of flavors emerging and complimenting one another especially as the drink continued to warm and open up were amazing; as advertised, vanilla, chocolate fudge and barrel notes of oak, leather and bourbon blend seamlessly; exquisite long lasting vanilla/chocolate/bourbon linger; world class.

It's a beautiful day here today without a cloud in the sky. I took a walk with my wife through the historic cemetery nearby, and on the way home we passed a bar/restaurant that we usually skip over because it's often very crowded and noisy. Today we stopped in for some lunch. Their beer list is quite extensive, and of course I couldn't resist having one. So what did I get on this 60 degree day that feels like spring is coming? A lightly fruited sour? A fresh ipa? Of course not, my backwards self decided on the rauchbier.

Kiss of the Dragon by Race Street Brew Works in Clearfield, PA is "brewed with barley that was smoked over burning peat from the Islay Island of Scotland. You will be enveloped with flavors and aromas of peat, smoke, brine, and the sea."

This keg had just been tapped according to the server. It poured a lightly hazy rusty brown color with a thin head. The aromas were very nice. The peat and smoke were very present as well as a biscuity malt. The smoke was also very present in the taste as was the peat, to the point that it was almost savory. It finished with a light saltiness that may have been the aforementioned "brine and sea." I don't know if I would go that far, but it was pleasant. The feel was nothing special. A simple brew with many complex flavors. We don't see many rauchbiers around here, so it was a nice surprise. Most importantly, it paired great with the wood-fired oven mac&cheese.
