I stopped by Mikerphone yesterday because I loved The New Workout Plan last time, and it did not disappoint. Seriously, this beer is awesome. Tons of coffee and coconut, it's like a way bigger, thicker, more intense version of Last Snow. The walnuts add a nutty bitterness that stops it from being too sweet. I can't wait for the BA version.

Super Duper Special Sauce was pretty great too. A lot of his Special Sauce batches have been a little syrupy. This one is not, and it has a pretty good amount of hop bitterness.

The only time I’ve visited Mikerphone was not to long after they released New Workout Plan. It’s by far the best beer I’ve had from them. And I agree, fantastic body, unlike any other Mikerphone stout I’ve had. So I completely assume that’s Horus’ doing.

I know nothing about this batch, I was just mentioning the first batch. I believe it was taproom only, but I don’t know anything about their distro in general. My local shops don’t get their stuff.

I think the first batch did not get distro. I also think they choose their distro stuff based on how much they made and how quickly they think it will sell out in their taproom. If they think it will sell out quickly, they don't distro. I have never seen this confirmed, this is just how they seem to operate and based on Mike saying (IIRC) they shouldn't have distro'd Bat Out of Hill because it sold out faster than they thought it would in their taproom.

I am happy to see breweries do their business even in this climate. But I do kind of cringe at releasing hype beers that implicitly encourage lines that may not fit health recommendations

Let’s be honest, there’s no real hype over any Mikerphone stouts these days. Especially these coffee bombs they keep putting out. I only want to go to get that obnoxious anniversary glass.

I understand that small businesses that sell luxury items are nervous at the idea of 4-6 weeks without crowds in their building..... but I absolutely agree with you here. It’s irresponsible to encourage hundreds of people to gather right now.

Now’s the time for Mikerphone to really rake in the profits. When others are taking measures to be safer, here is their opportunity to really capitalize on that. I would not be least bit shocked if they actually also raised prices in combination with pumping out more releases during this time.

You mean you don't want to pay $30 for a bomber of BA stout in 2020?? Shocking...

No, I would gladly do it. But every stout I’ve had from them has been horribly imbalanced. I’d say the only one worth having again was “press play”, the one they collabed with Voodoo.

Yeah, that's super disappointing. I went out of my way to buy their BA stuff because it was in a 12oz format. I didn't even bother trying to get OMWM because of the 750 format. I hope they realize the error of their ways. Their new bottles do look freaking cool though.

This is a very weird decision during this time especially as more places are not just shutting down events but also taprooms.

I went to the vanillanoize release with a friend and there were 17 people's at the door and previous releases of that beer sold out in hours or by end of day. This one lasted weeks and after trying it on tap I know why. Over rosted malt and hardly and vanilla. Almost wanted to see if I could return the bottles I bought. At least after a month the vanilla started to shine again but it still had the bitterness on the finish. Maybe after a couple of more months the next bottle when be better, I hope.
