Fuck the pandemic when the beer fridge is empty. Am I right?

These are odd times. I found myself going back for seconds of a pastry stout (Sunday crunch). Real fucked up

Wow I guess you really did like it!

In other news, I’m currently drinking an ACE and I think it’s really tasty, despite some less than enthusiastic comments about this recent batch.

You probably saw in our COVID-19 post yesterday that we’re taking the health of our staff, customers and community seriously.

That’s why we’re doing our can sale a bit differently tomorrow:
Gonna keep lines in check by extending warehouse can sale hours from 8am through close (midnight) and also allow folks to grab cans without entering the taproom, and/or without a spoken exchange, via checkable menus (think: ordering oysters).

If lines begin to form, please keep proper distance between you and the person in front of you. It’s not weird, it’s cool.

And, we’re adhering to gov’t guidelines by limiting the number of guests in our taproom to half our normal capacity. To compensate, we have more beer to go, so you can sip safely at home.

I like this a lot! Hill Farm and others have done this in the past (unrelated to a pandemic) to handle ordering and what not.

Stopped at the brewery today around 1230 on my way to pick a family member up in the city. The new HS is really, really good (+infinity HS points). Grabbed cans of Toomeys Corner and 8 Acre.

First impression of TC is citrusy and resinous with a good bitterness. Tons of flavor for a 6%. This could be a staple in my fridge if it was readily available. ABV is right in line.

Taproom capped at 40 and already full. Probably want to stay home.

Maybe I’m confused on exactly how this works, but is it handing out a paper list/pencil? How is that less likely to spread germs than just ordering verbally from 3 feet away?

The effort they are putting forth to be both cautious and operational is worth applause. I agree it's odd they think handing out or sharing a menu to check off is not better than just ordering verbally but the additional hours and line spacing is A+

I never go to the taproom anyway cause I am not good with crowds. This seems like the best weekend yet for my can shopping needs.

Well I think they do care about not having any sick employees. Also, avoiding any bad press. I also think all breweries, restaurants, and bars especially in NYC are on thin ice. One mini breakout because of a sick guest or worker and they actually might do greater crackdowns on non essential businesses staying open.

For sure. If I sounded insincere I apologise. I really do appreciate the efforts they are talking.

Oh no you didn't. I'm just a horrible cynic that sees these businesses desperately grasping at any strategy to justify staying open given the very nature of their product and the fact that sitting on their hands burns money. That said you're absolutely right. If you're a high volume craft brewery in NYC like they are this is probably about a good a method of handling things as can be managed while still, you know, actually functioning as a business. Other breweries actually should take these types of precautions at the minimum.

What’s the crossover percentage of other half mules and hand sanitizer hoarders? I’d say like 80%.

80% chance the crossover is 99%. 20% chance the crossover is 98%.

I don't think you too far off the mark here... but then again my e-mail box is nothing but e-mails from every type of retailer, restaurant, winery, brewer whos list I'm on, with the same kind of message as to what they are doing to protect their customers... I think all these businesses are all facing serious economic consequences, so I can't exactly fault them.

It's probably not a bad idea for any breweries who can just start canning their production rather than kegging and pivot to becoming more of a retail outlet over the coming weeks... Kane is only selling cans and merchandise and pre packaged crowlers now... no draft sales... most draconian move I've seen so far.

Totally with you. “A dozen oysters please” communicated via mouth-speak has always been my go to. I am known to be a degenerate social outcast though
