Good old Genny Cream, the beer of my misspent youth! We used to call it "The Green Death" for its gas-producing effect. I'll tell you this much...it tastes the same in 2020 as it did in 1974! It doesn't induce as much GI gas though...which probably has more to do with an "experienced" metabolism than any change in recipe

Man, those are some confusing/contrary statements from the brewery.
Does anyone believe that? That sure is the opposite of all industry records, which show overall industry hops usage and malt content was decreased and RDF went up during that period. And that sure seems to conflict with:
So, it's been all-malt since "the craft beer boom" (kinda vague) but it's the same since the Repeal of Prohibition?

Post-Repeal ads for Point Special Beer claimed:
Doubtful that that is true today (granted, the brewery likely doesn't consider lagering time part of the "recipe"...).

    Also:
Records show that Point Special Beer was on sale by April, 1933, when the Feds and Wisconsin changed the Prohibition regulations to allow "under 3.2 alcohol by weight" beer. By the terminology used at the time, that would not have been "full strength" beer, which wouldn't be legal until Dec. 1933 with the enactment of the 21st Amendment.

Ha. Yeah, there were a number of beers around the country that went by that sobriquet (mostly because of their higher abv along with their green bottle/can). Rainier Ale on the west coast, Haffenreffer Private Stock Malt Liquor in New England and the northeast, and in the mid-West - Heileman's Special Export, Gluek's Stite and Mickey's Malt Liquor (which eventually went national under Heileman and then Miller).

JK, I can state that I for one do not believe this statement.

It seems 'popular' for breweries to make claims like "Same as is was brewed in 19xx" but this is all marketing BS in my opinion.

    Non-cheers to marketing BS!!!

My latest is Gold Buckle Beer.

It's brewed nearby in La Junta, CO and uses 80% 2-row malt and 20% dextrose (corn, I'm guessing). Great price point (although I don't have figures off the top of my head). It's way better than Coors, Bud/Bud Light, Hamms, and other major AALs...

Huh. Will have to try Gold Buckle, as I didn't know it was a near-plains beer for us here in CO.
Usuals, when I do go into this style are: Cumbre's "Beer," Solid Gold (yeah, and for the nostalgia of that 70s music show), Old Style and of course Hamms.
    Cheers!

The marketing geniuses can lie- er, say whatever they like, but their beer is still crap.

I don't disagree, but back in the day, consumer's expectations were much lower. Or so it seemed to me with perfect 20/20 hindsight.

Coors Banquet & Lone Star. If someone has Gansett on tap (and the lines are clean) I’m down for that as well.

    Well, from an earlier era

(so, I'll always associate the Mets with Rheingold but I'd grab a Schaefer draught whenever I saw it being offered).

I was never fortunate enough to try the Rheingold... It's tough even finding Schaefer these days, but whenever I see it I grab a 12 pack. I remember seeing old footage of the Schaefer sign in Shea and it sparked some nostalgia, but you're right, Rheingold did have a pretty heavy hand in baseball back in the day.

Narragansett is definitely less sweet than Hamms.

I know calling Yuengling Traditional an AAL could be a stretch especially because they do brew their Premium which is more so to that styling. Idk what I’d do without Yuengling to be honest. It is absolutely everywhere and I have a very early memory of my mom drinking it as well.
theres only so much creativity. Probably why

I actually saw Genny cream on the shelf recently and notice that it's in 24 packs now instead of 30, and the price was $20 when it was usually $14 or $15 for the 30 packs. I'm not sure if this is part of their re-branding of Genny cream as some kind of craft option?

I agree - I always thought of premium as the AAL. Yuengling amber lager really isn't an AAL to me.

It’s brewed with corn that makes it an AAL I my book.

Yeah, they changed the can label to de-emphasize "Genesee" (tho' the "G+Barley Logo" is still there).

They did the same thing with the Bock.
The Cream Ale also has its own website https://www.originalcreamale.com/ altho' it is still listed on Genesee's main site, too. Calling it the "Original" is a bit ahistorical, of course, being first brewed in 1960 - so more than a century after the earliest US "cream ales", like John Taylor's of the 1830s.

Yuengling Traditional Lager is an AAAL (Amber American Adjunct Lager or American Amber Adjunct Lager if you prefer).

You can add Shiner Bock and Genny Bock to this category.

Should I make a post about AAAL in the update beer styles thread?

    Cheers!
