I think it's just the reality of the situation and the impact it could very well have on small businesses. Being a brewer at a successful brewery is probably not the most lucrative business in the best of times. Margins are fairly thin and even though they can still sell product, I have to imagine their margins on beer at their location are better than their distributed products.

They're looking at having to survive for potentially months on a much lower income.

Yep, it should be common knowledge, but small business owners who own restaurants/bars/breweries, etc. don't generally have large cash reserves. Their ability to survive is going to depend largely on whether the owners have sufficient personal assets to cover costs during this time period. I have a small business that is still going but that could change if regulations become tighter. It guts me to see what the food/drink industry is going through. As of now, the financial impact of the virus is numerous times worse than the health impact.

He might have to sell off his collection of Jordan’s.

No doubt about any of that, but since he specifically mentioned recently completing a “massive” expansion project and all the new tanks they just installed that he doesn’t know if he will even use now, it is clear his recent purchases are making it even more difficult for his business model, especially now having to refund over $125k for the festival tickets.

I would assume Une Annee/HC is having similar problems with the new facility just opening.

I'm sure it was a huge investment. Nobody really plans for something like this. 6 months ago his biggest worry was his beers oxidizing. Now he is thinking about if he will ever be open again.

The fact that the city wanted him to cancel a may event just shows that we could be looking at not only 2-3 months of bar shutdowns, but potentially the rest of the year in chunks. Would not be shocked if they lift the lockdown only to reinstate it weeks later.

Need a little help; Mikerphone is selling kegs and I would love to pick one up as I am about to cash my Heavenly Helles keg. Problem is that only three of the beers are drinkable and I have only had one before (Poetic Hustler - which I did not like enough to want a keg of). Has anyone had either of the other two...Meow Meow or Ride the Dragon? If so, is it good enough that you would buy more?

I enjoyed RTD. One of the better hazys I’ve had from Mike recently.

I don't want to name the place publicly, but one owner with multiple locations told my brother yesterday they had to layoff all but 35 of their 200 PT/FT employees this week to attempt to ride the storm out.

Nearly everyone will be exposed to the virus over the next 18 months, governments around the world are trying to string out exposure over to manage the health care system as best as they think possible, and also with the possibility a vaccine will be created.

Not sure how many small/mid sized businesses will be able to make it if things are closed beyond a month.

I personally think Terror Dome from Saint Errant is a way better beer (and less carbed) than Ride The Dragon and they are selling kegs for $150. Refundable $60 keg hold tho.

Thanks, good to know! That is still pretty up there for a sixtel. Half Acre is selling Navaja kegs for $95.

I'd agree with this too. Terror Dome is outstanding.

Three new beers announced today, and all sound great.

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE - This Brett-Fermented Saison was aged in wine puncheons on Tangerine and Guava (6.7% abv). Loads of funk and citrus shine through on this bright beer. 750mL bottles will be $15.99 each.

CURRANTLY PLAYING VANILLA - Another funky one, this is a Brett-Fermented Saison aged in wine puncheons on Black Currants and Vanilla (6.0% abv). The 750mL bottles will be $16.99 each.

CAFE AGOGO - This is our collaboration with Bruno from @cervejariadogma in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It's a Brazilian Coffee stout with Tahitian Vanilla Beans, (11.0% abv) and the coffee beans were flown in directly from Brazil. 750mL bottles for $16.99 each.

The last wine puncheon aged saison I had by Mikerphone was Dynamite with a Laserbeam, and it was..... dynamite? Looking forward to all of these.

Still waiting on that BPT refund for the Fest....sounds like it’s time to dispute your CC charge as BPT is in financial trouble

I'm really confused why they did free reservations instead of having people pre-pay like they're doing for all their other to go beer right now. Just increases the time it takes to get through people and increases points of contact having to take payment

I *think* it’s to spread the crowd out over 3 days and to avoid a line. Having said that, you would figure there’s a way to still do the day by day allotments with online sales since they figured that out for the reservations. I picked up a bottle so I guess I am done complaining about the price/format change

Yeah, to clarify I did mean keep the time slot system to spread crowds but just charge up front.

Side Project has been doing that for theirs (wider pick-up windows for general things, specific time slots for new releases / potential crowds). Although they've also been allowing proxies which helps prevent "I'm feeling sick but still going to go pick up my beer"

Did Mikerphone refund the money to those who purchased tickets for the fest that was canceled?
