I would really like to do an order but not sure I can justify putting a case worth of beer into the fridge without sacrificing precious space on actual food right now.

i think i'll probably preserve familial bliss more if I take my dog on a 25 min (each way) walk and come home with 2 four packs over the weekend, but i would definitely feel a lot better about the delivery option. putting a case into the fridge would be a hard sell right now, and putting OH ipas into the closet at room temperature would cause me unnecessary additional anxiety.

You could opt not to refrigerate some of this for a week or two until you have room. With OH's consistently low dissolved oxygen numbers, the beer will be fine.

It makes for an appropriate time to reread an existential classic, The Plague! (edit: my exclamation point, not the author's)

It's funny because you said breweries are protecting people's health.

You could get away with beer on the fire escape if you trust your neighbors.

For those that may want less than a case (given fridge space is complicated these days), maybe we should be posting in the IP Mid Atlantic Trading section? Given the lack of activity there, this may make sense. Something along the lines of "IP NYC UWS - ISO Cans from the OH UWS Delivery FT Flexible. If people post by neighborhood/delivery zone, it would be pretty easy to then work something out via DM and walk a few blocks to do a handoff? And maybe you even meet a BA neighbor you never knew lived so close? I used to do similar with @robnewton when he lived nearby, maybe @JayORear you live me? And @RauchbierFan33 and @rozzom may near each other?

Are In Person trades advisable given the circumstances?

yeah I reached out to @rozzom - turns out we live on the same street! but then he called me a “stupid north dakotan trump-voting c**t” for asking to meet up in person, and followed up by pushing me to give up citra beers for galaxy ones (I was also iso: citra and ft: galaxy). So tl;dr didn’t work out

Sure. I believe Tree House with their new system leaves it on a stand outside the brewery. Employee puts case on stand, car is parked, employee leaves, customer snags case(s) and is on their way.

Apply this to an IP trade. Decide on meeting place, drop your beers, one person steps forward and snags them, then the next person completes the transaction. Convo and pleasantries can be kept at a distance.

My serious thoughts on this - and zero knocks on @ScottKramer because this is a beer forum and we are just hypothesising on how to deal with case+ limits - is that yes it can be done in a low risk way, but there is still more risk than not doing it at all (where the risk is zero), so is now the time to start doing IP trades?

Like we all need to put stuff in the “essential/worth the risk” bucket and the “non-essential/not worth the risk bucket”. Some stuff (groceries) is obviously in the essential bucket. Some stuff (exercise, still buying beer) has a fairly easy argument for going in the essential bucket depending on the person. For me personally taking up IP trading is not worth it. Either I will buy a whole case or I will do without.

Totally agree. I’m not doing any kind of trading, IP or otherwise. I was merely offering a potential scenario to pull it off.

Beer is way down my list of priorities right now given our current situation. Even more so with a one month old. I don’t need/want the areas latest haze to risk health.

I added NJ to the delivery thing on their story yesterday. If they are going all over NYC, the drive to the area my house is in would be comparable, heres to hoping! But not getting the hopes up seeing that my GFs zip in south Brooklyn is not included yet and its literally a 10 min drive right now with no one out and about as they usually are...

Agree here, I am worrisome enough about needing to go get some extra food today and knowing people are going to be stupid at the store. OH at least is offering a mixed bag on the case, which for me would be doable if they offered delivery to my area. If i was in BK and I wanted anything and felt safe enough I'd likely drive over and get 2 or 3 4-packs. But with ability to get a mixed case and being cooped up for an undetermined time, I would be fine with it. Even if I didn't have room, I'd let it sit on my porch, temp changes aren't extreme enough right now to warrant any worry. Cans will be fine out of a fridge for the time it would take for you to drink enough to fit them.

Matt Monaghan was on Steal This Beer this week. Nothing particularly mind blowing, but it was interesting to hear him put numbers on their barrels/month and the amount of customers they serve a week.

He also said that they want to make a concerted effort to focus on best-selling core beers, which is great.

But he also said that Green City is the best beer they make, so, not sure I can agree with that.

Green City is certainly the best selling by volume beer they make! I'm cheating a bit since it's all over town. I wonder if we'll actually see more cans of it during all this because of the decrease in on premise sales.

As per it being their "best" beer, it's a solid NEIPA and the quality seems really consistent. I'll take great batches of space diamonds over green city, but green city over weaker batches of space diamonds.

Oh yea it's basically their flagship so I'm sure it's by far their best-selling beer to outside accounts, but I always saw it as kind of entry level OH. If somebody never had their stuff before it'd be a great baseline representation of what they do, but I've never been tempted to get cans myself.

I mean, one, as said it's distributed a ton throughout NYC. I would suspect it also has to do with a reliable consistent (cheap, relatively speaking) source of hops for it that makes them great margins even when they're mostly not canning it or pouring out at the brewery. Margins probably tighter on a lot of their other stuff. Plus I've had it a few times and it's as close to their "Budweiser" as you get, insofar as it always tastes about the same. I've had variations in ACE/SD/green power etc and lactose variations but never as significant a change in green City. I'm not knowledgeable enough about brewing and procurement of ingredients to fully get how that happens but that's my (uneducated) opinion.

With a mega beer geek hat on it’s arguably entry level. If a “regular” person who just generally enjoys nice things did a side by side between green city and triple citra, they would find one to be a balanced, relatively dry, tasty NEIPA, and the other to be an in your face sugar bomb worthy of dumping. We’ve incrementally fucked ourselves and our palates
