This was gifted to me and has about 15 months on it. I wouldn't have aged a stout with coffee that long personally, but I'm still enjoying it. Hightower Brewing's A Bedtime Story Chapter 1 is and imperial stout aged on hazelnuts, cocoa, Madagascar vanilla beans, and a blend of barrel aged coffee beans.

 

Old Nation Electron Brown Espresso Bean Double Brown Ale. Haven't had a brown ale in years. This is hitting the spot because it's different than the typical stout/porter I'm used to having. Nice coffee/espresso presence to go along with roasted malts, some nuttiness, light caramel, and a light hop bitterness. Quite dry. Smooth medium body. Solid stuff coming from a brewery that is known for their haze and not much else.

Could have been bootlegged by someone else, but I know with everything going on, I could see Mike sneaking some up there for extra business. He's from Wisco and you can tell that place holds a special place in his heart. Says a lot about the Chicago beer scene when I'm passing on that quality of beer. Enjoy!

 

So I try almost anything by 4 Hands (not the ones with most of the botanicals). I was thinking this was going to be awful, but it’s pretty playful and unique. It’s an ale with blackberries, mint, and cinnamon. Craziness.
