Pulling the runnings on a traditional Scottish ale right now. Golden Promise with a dash of roasted black malt, hopped with some old northern brewers I had on hand, and fermenting with Wy1728 @60F. Gonna give this bad boy a nice long boil and see what happens!

Bottling a Stout. Dry hopping a simcoe/amarillo Ipa and Indian Brown Ale. Drinking a lot of homebrew to free up some bottles for next week.

The recipient of the gift should be responsible for aging it properly...it's not like you are giving them 80#s of grain and saying, "make your gift" : )

I have two extract batches I might be able to make: a sour that I may use as a blender or go with straight up and a hoppy black ale.

I got a heavily hopped barley wine to come together in about a month. I guess you could argue that it's a IIPA though

I have really liked what Golden Promise does in that style beer. I think it might be one of my favorite base grains lately.

First time with the grain or the style. Did a little homework though and like what I've read. Brewday all done now and everything went smooth. Should be a great batch of beer!

I have been using golden promise a lot lately, and really like it. Pretty awesom mid palatte sweetness without feeling heavy or too toasty. Made an awesome IPA that was basically all GP with some Carahell for body:

Bear with me here... but I think its fun to liken base malts to starchy foods:

    Pilsner: plain pasta
Light American 2-row: Wonder bread/ crackers
Golden Promise: Gooey warm French bread guts
Darker, non “MO” 2-row (Castle, Great Western…): Biscuits
MO: Cookies (without the chocolate chips)
    Vienna: Toasty cookies
Munich: Malted milk balls (without the chocolate coating)

Making a Red Rye Ale tomorrow. Centennial, Citra, Simcoe & Falconer's Flight hops...

this on the heels of a crazy 10-hour brewday last Sunday when I made a Lambic with a friend

I agree. GP is my 'house' base malt. Works well with anything from IPA to Stouts. Great stuff!

    Cheers!

Maple is one of those mythical ingredients that just never comes out as intended. Like strawberries.

Just mashed in on a seven gallon batch of oatmeal stout. 2-2.5 gallons will be fermented seperate and given a coffee treatment at bottling.

I used some in primary after krausen was close to dropping/starting to drop.

It tasted good, then the maple went away after it was done re fermenting. Decided to add some to the keg, chill and carb. That way the maple wouldn't get fermented out.

I think I just jacked up with my temp, and the yeast choice, and it got fruity on me. Now it's a brown ale, with a cherry note and maple.

Went lazy, and did my 1st brew only.

Galaxy, Belma, and a touch of Cascade in there.

Simple grist of 2 row, a touch of munich and vienna, and a handful of C40.

Smelled great, came out a bit high on the gravity even mashing at 152*, and finished it up around 1.065 and mid/low 50's IBU's.

Next up tomorrow.. Citra Pale Ale.
